Hmm....I'd have to guess mid 79 to late 80,that was when me and some of my high school friends spent most our time there(course could be wrong...we all had that hair back then..LOL).There were probably a lot of the best players hanging around at Greenway back then.Being high schoolers though usually when the money came out in front or the back room us poor teens cleared out.LOL

By the way I heard "THE NEW GREENWAY BILLIARDS" has opened under new management. Haven't been by there yet though and if you're familiar with "The Rack", I heard they got raided for a Texas Express game awhile back. Screwy them running a game nowadays since there are two casinos in town.

I was there during the same time frame you were. Most of the time on the weekends, Friday night until Sunday morning a lot of the time. You are correct, there was some amazing talent hanging around back then. I didn't get to see a lot of back room action as the door was usually locked. I did match up with Lambert once in the back room. The tables were so wet that I couldn't play a lick on them. I also remember them boiling shrimp when road players were in town. Wet tables favored the locals that's for sure.

There was more than one "The Rack" when I lived there, I believe there were three all owned by a man named Lindy IIRC. Is the new room you speak of going to be called Greenway Billiards? Will it be in the same location as the old one?

Still haven't made it by there yet but the phone book calls it "NEW Greenway Billiards" at 8515 Greenwell Springs rd. which I think is the same old address. The Rack that they said got raided is the old one on GS rd also, just down the street from New Greenway(I think it's the only Rack now). There's a "Lambert's RBD's" (hear that's a place to play) on N. Flannery Rd...is that the same Lambert?

I'm not sure, the Lambert that I used to play passed away a few years back. I know that he had a room when he died and the new owners may have kept the same name. Let me know what find out about the new Greenway.

to watch. The ones that make you want to play. The ones that you emulate. The ones you grab a front seat to watch...
In the late 80's and early 90's, there was none better than Mark Tadd in my opinion. I saw him give great players weight and come out on top. Very little defense. No fancy cue. Played with a sneaky pete the times I saw him. Was proficient at every game. Great gambler.

LOL favorite to watch....Nick Varner.... You've got to be kidding me! He's no doubt, one of the greatest players in history, but he's also like watching paint dry!

My favorites to watch would be :

Nine Ball: Efren, Earl, Swannie (rip), Parica, Alex, Cory and Keith

One Pocket: Efren, Joiner, Parica, Bugs, Clem Metz, and Freddy the beard

Bank Pool: Gary Spaeth (rip) , John Brumback, Jason Miller, Bugs, Truman and Piggy

These are the types of players who make for exciting matches!

just more hot air!

I played nick varner it was great watching him run rack after rack after rack after rack after rack well you get the pic. Hell a couple weeks ago he was playing a guy in one pocket where he had to make 8 straight balls with out missing in his pocket before the other guy had to make 10 I believe and he still won!! It was incredible That man can shoot! He is not a talker but you can learn so much from him just by watching. I believe you cant learn anything watching paint dry!

For me, it's Jeff Carter. He is simply flawless.

I also love watching Francisco Bustamante. There is something so pure in his rhythm.

Allison Fisher is also fun to watch. Her patterns and her control of the cue ball and the situation make her simply the best there is.

I also like Ga Young Kim. She gets this twinge of a smile when she has it all under control. It's funny to see her make that smirk, unless you are her opponent.

hello black jack jeff does play smooth and takes his time he is a local player were i live but most of the time he is the house pro at cuenique billiards in madison WI. Larry nevel is a local player to but he moved now to SC he plays awsome to.
