Who's your TOP 5?

Wow, I completely forgot about him! Yikes. He'd bump someone off for sure. I'd say he'd bump off Wu.

So Shane, Filler, Ko, Ko, Chang. ps, I picked the modern players simply because I've seen them all play at their primes:) No other reason.

LOL, let's not tell Filler you forgot about him :) I can't say anything, I forgot about SVB

For modern players I would go Shane, Shaw, Filler, Ronnie Sullivan, and Siming Chen. Not all the best, but my favorite modern players.

That's actually a really good set. Each is super fun and interesting to watch play. If this set had a traveling gig, they might revive pool.

Ronnie OSullivan wouldn’t stick on the tour if American Pool. To paraphase
The Rocket, American Pool compared to Snooker is like mini golf compared to the Masters. OK for a bit of fun.p then back I serious business.

Nick Varner John Schmidt - Only player to break Mosconi's streak

Nine Ball Dream Team
Luther Lassiter ✔
Harold Worst ✔
Mike Sigel ✔

--Can't really argue with these 5 and their portfolios, but I would put Efren and Bustamante somewhere on the list, too--
One Pocket Dream Team
Efren Reyes ✔
Rags Fitzpatrick ✔
Ronnie Allen ✔
Alex Pagulayan Eddie Taylor - One of the greatest to ever do it, plus I'm bias because of the namesake 😏 and we both are part of the Joss Cues family.
Clem Metz ✔

Bank Pool Dream Team
Eddie Taylor ✔
Bugs Rucker ✔
John Brumback ✔
Nick Varner ✔
Skyler Woodward -- He's young and doing well now but I'd be hesitant to put him in my TOP 5 of all-time. I'd lean more toward Efren because of his proven longevity in the craft.

Pool All-Around Dream Team
Efren Reyes ✔
Nick Varner
Luther Lassiter ✔
Harold Worst Shane Van Boening - Even with technological advances in cuemaking and stronger competition from all over the world, he still enjoyed a long run as "The Best in The World". It would be hard not to include him in the TOP 5, for me.
Mike Sigel ✔

Billiards Dream Team
Thorbjorn Blomdahl ✔
Fredric Caudron ✔
Dick Jaspers ✔
Raymond Ceulemans Willie Hoppe
Daniel Sanchez ✔

Straight pool dream team:

Ralph Greenleaf
Luther Lassiter

All the best,
WW
Tough to argue here with Lassiter, even though he missed my cut in the straight pool discipline, Though less technically elegant than a Crane, Mosconi, or even Caras, Luther Lassiter's game always went up when the stakes were highest, and even some of the most elite were not very inclined to gamble with him at straight pool. I've heard more than a few of the old timers call him pool's straightest ever shooter.

Good post. You would have to have seen Lassiter close to his prime to understand what a good 14.1 player he was. I still remember, I believe, a 1966 or 1967 Wide World of Sports where Luther beat Eddie Taylor in what was probably the US or World Open, hard to tell. Then, in the Fall of 1967, Lassiter and Taylor did an exhibition in my soon to be high school in Maryland. It was organized by Bill (Weenie Beanie) Staton, and Red Jones. You should know both those names. As good as Eddie Taylor was, he no match for Lassiter. That's what got me hooked on playing pool. Then again, you may wonder about Cranfield in my list. He destroyed Lassiter in a challenge match to 1,200, even calling a couple fouls on himself, and has two runs over 700. We all have our lists.

All the best,
WW

Yes, I knew all of then, although I met Cranfield just once. I watched Lassiter play when I was just nine years old in 1967 and a few times after that, but most of what I know of him is second hand. Jimmy Fusco introduced me tp Weenie Beenie in the late 1970's, and I didn't see him again until 1999. I met Eddie Taylor in the 1990s but I don't think I ever saw him play. Of the old guard, the one I knew well was Crane. Irving Crane said of Babe Cranfield "he probably had more 300 ball runs than anyone that ever played the game," so Babe obviously had the juice. Another giant of the straight pool discipline who gets overlooked too often for my taste is Joe Balsis, whom I saw play many times. Joe was a stone cold killer.

I can only choose from players that I have watched and I have not been playing/watching long.

SVB
Woodward
Filler
Reyes
Strickland
Honorable mention: Tyler Styer with perfect fundamentals like his how can he not be a beast at some point?

As far as older players from what I have seen of older matches on Youtube I am really surprised at some of the relatively shots that are missed compared to current players, did it have something to do with the slow tables????

most of those older guys were passed their prime when being filmed.
like when lassiter was younger he just never ever missed a ball he shot at. about the same with mosconi.
same with a more modern era eddie kelly and bill incardona. they never missed a shot all day. and didnt play on perfectly level tables or great cloth .
