i have been noticing for sometime now, that billiard players practically need the earth to stop spinning when they play, but when POOL players are playing they could give a Rats A$$ and dont give them the same curtacy.

Has anyone ever noticed this before?

It's because there is no psychological satisfaction in playing a game where you never pocket a ball, the balls are always there no matter what you do, its sort of like having intercourse but never... well you know.

Absolutely- I was down on a shot just this week, when a World Class player at the next table kept walking in and out of my peripheral no more than 3 feet away. I missed by a mile.

3-C is a impossible game to master and they are just pissed off at themselfs for picking a game thats to hard. So they take it out on others.

Talk about an ignorant thread. Running a 5 or 6 in billiards is akin to running 20-30 balls in straight pool. Incredibly satisfying to go above that.

Maybe the billiards players near you are older and grumpy. I haven't found too many younger players that consistently play billiards due to the lack of interest (not because it's not a great game, but because it's just not as popular because it requires more thought that the average Joe-(not m) exhibits while playing pool).

Pool players complain plenty, but I do think that billiard players are known for being even worse about complaining about conditions, distractions,etc...

The room owners I know say they're mostly cheapskate old men anyway lol. 70 year old guys wanting ten refills of coffee and tipping 46 cents after complaining about the balls not getting polished wears people out.

I'll probably turn out to be one of those whiny bastards in a few more years. Playing on crap equipment with chipped balls, kissing out shots, missing five railers by 1/16" of an inch will start to make you a pissed off human being.

Danny McGoorty once said billiard players don't need wives, they've got enough aggravation in their life already.:p

Edit: I forgot to add that half of the old timers think they know ALL the shots, and can't believe they aren't running tens instead of averaging 0.400. One old guy told me Byrnes book was crap and that the old Hoppe book (with numerous wrong diagrams) was dead on accurate. No wonder I beat him 50-20 every time we played.

I don't think the word "disgruntled" applies as much as the word "serious". Every banger in the country knows how to play pocket billiards at some level or another, but the only billiards players who I've seen are generally at a much higher level.
Since it is much rarer to find a billiards table in a room that a pocket billiards table, you generally find people who have travelled further to play the game they love and take it more seriously.

If I run a 22 and a 20 in the same day like Jaspers did recently, I'd feel like the guy who knocked up Alba nine months ago. No worries about feeling unfullfilled at all.

Sorry, my bad!

I was refering to the older players, i myself know that billiards is hard game to master. i myself enjoy playing the game, and i agree about the equivelant runs in the game. My high run is a 9, i dont play too much 3-cushion it tends to mess up my pool game.

I played to races to 25 with a friend today at Chris's in Chicago while the one pocket tourney was going on and we had a great time! I did manage to string together one run of five in the second set which made my day. There was none of the carrying on described in this thread just good ol fashioned carom pool on super equipment 5x10 heated tables with gorina cloth. BTW I lost the first set and won the second and we both enjoyed ourselves with no BS at all. Perhaps the folks you described you should learn to lighten up and just enjoy the game for what it is a GAME nothing more and nothing less.
Just my thoughts,
Dan

I think billiard players are elitists.
I met one recently and was surprised how he talked down to me--a lowly poolplayer--shucks I've only been playing 31 years!

I don't know any billiard players so my comments are just speculation. If they are indeed pissy, and I have know way of knowing that, I would say they are that way because they have spent years mastering a very difficult game that no one cares about and most of the public is not even aware of its existence. (Wow what a sentence.)They aren't celebrities and they never get rich no matter how well they play.

Don't know just talking out of my arse.

You shouldn't have noticed. I recently watched a re-run of a TOC match between Efren and Mika. It has a called 9 ball rule and in one rack Efren went down on the 9 without calling it and several people were shouting CALL IT...CALL IT...but he never heard them and shot anyway...losing the rack to Mika.

Then a couple of racks later MIKA DID THE SAME THING and never heard the yells!

When I was taking instruction from Bobby Pickle, he would walk around the table while I was shooting...stand RIGHT next to me on one side or the other and clap loudling while I was down on a shot.

Many people can so intensely concentrate on a TV program that they don't hear people talking to them from 2 feet away.

Mika and Efren proved that they can achieve that same level of concentration/isolation and it's a major benefit for those who can.

Jim

I had watched a small video of Semih Saygıner in the net about snooker.Saygıner said snooker is not the hardest game among cue sports. All branches are difficult at the professional level;all games have inner difficulties and In order to be successful at the top level, one must invest serious practice time into his/her branch and he finished the video by saying that becouse of this hard work, professionals whether 3c players or pool players or snooker players deserve respect.

I personally watch all of them and love all of them but my favourite is 3C.The reason why I prefer 3C is becouse I love kicking. To kick a ball around a table is really very satisfying. It is also a good watch.Pool fans talk about the Efren's shot in 95 eagainst Strickland for years but you can watch similar shots even better ones in nearly every 3c match.I believe pool players must sometimes play 3c to increase their shotmaking abilities:to experience higher tempos, spins etc.and to experience dynamic cue ball control .3C players must practice pool to increase their presicion and to experience delicate cue ball control and to check their stroke and all of them must play some snooker to really see at what level their precision is,IMO.
