Why are there so many "guests" to AZ ?

Actually, a very perceptive list. As a new member, I can tell you that this place can be tough:
It also is hard to be accepted. I'm sure they notice that new people tend to be ignored, along with the ridicule. Unfortunately, it is exactly the same, on a lot of boards. It is a fact of life, that a lot of guests never become members on any board, based on some of the rough treatment they see, on some of the posts. I decided to bite the bullet, because, I am not worried about a hassle. This place is not as rough as some of the Harley boards I visit/ or moderate on, and mostly, BECAUSE IT HAS A WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE. To any lurkers out there, you are cheating yourself by not becoming a member. If you take your time getting going, and try not to alienate anyone for a while, it will be fine. It's just like life. Let people get to know you, and eventually, you won't be ignored.

See what I mean? :rotflmao1:

I'm SURE AZ welcomes "Newbies" !

I have quite a few "AZ newbies" I know from my pool hall. Kids that sign up here, ask one or two questions and get a barrage of insults about how stupid their opinion or question is. That "welcoming" is probably noticed by more than a few lurkers. It doesn't matter that 99/100 members will smile at the screen and say nothing, the small % that berate new people end up driving them away. So the board keeps the same 200 or so repeat posters out of 10,000 members that make up most of these threads. It's why so many threads will deteriorate into the same argument. Oh yeah...;)..its all George W Bush's and Barack Obama's fault anyways...

I just went through the Members list. AZ has 741 pages of members, over 22,000 people. And over 500 pages of those members have posted 10 times or less. That should tell us we are missing something in welcoming people.

I am an APA player and I have an account. I don't understand this statement.

The reason you don't understand it is because it is utter nonsense. Nowhere on this site is it required that you identify any affiliation with any organization. There are those here that make it a point to ridicule newbys and act as the be all end all of pool knowledge, but by and large it is simply a group of folks with a common passion, more than willing to share insights or practical knowledge. Those few who go out of their way to make others feel uncomfortable or bash threads are fortunately in the minority. I think the answer to your question is likely covered by those who said they visit just to check things out and log in only if they desire to interact in some fashion.....Dan

I have no problems with new registered users trying to learn from the boards. I wish more would do so. Kinda off the subject but this is in the back of my mind a lot. There are over 22,000 users here selling product, buying product, getting free advise, etc. It seems that a very low percentage of these folks are actual members, as in paid membership. It's that yellow banner under your nick that says club member. If your just browsing around and trying to learn some stuff I am all for it. But if you buy, sell, trade, raffle or give and take in the action room I think you should pay the $20 and support this site. I think it's only fair. When I deal with folks on here I do take in consideration if they are a paid member or not. Well once again this is my unsolicited rambling for the evening. Have a great night everyone!
