Why are there so many "guests" to AZ ?

Why are there so many, "guests" to AZ ?

Are you saying Cocobolocowboy is an APA Player?

I think most of the guests are either previously banned members, or
anti-social APA players afraid of receiving a "friendship" request from cocobolocowboy.

Apa

Can't believe how fast this turned into an APA bashing thread.

I think some people play APA because it may be the only league in their vicinity. It used to be the only game in town for many years ago. I know guys who play both and I even fish with one!! He catches fish but they are small! LOL

Obviously i don't play APA but if i am understanding this correctly APA frowns on AZ. Why would that be? APA was designed to introduce new players to pool. Wouldn't their next step be to learn all they could by visiting a forum like AZ?

I have never heard any APA person say negative things about AZ Billiards. I get to read all the time what AZ Billiard Members think about the APA.
If all you play is APA, why would you waste your time on hear listeneing to people bash the league that you enjoy.

I also get logged out of AZbilliards after a few minutes of inactivity. I go make a glass of iced tea and then I am logged out. Having a wireless router sometimes sends the message you are no longer on the site. So most of the time I am on AZ I am probably listed as a guest. Not to mention there are plenty of people who probably don't want to partake. Afraid of being bashed for their first post. Most of my friends will not post on AZ for that reason. Too much internet drama for their tastes.

Could be that some of them play with "vague" hitting cues or Chinese cues and do not want to be ridiculed.

Here are some reasons that come to mind.

Every time I sign on to AZ's forum, there are many more "guests" than members signed on. WHY ? I doesn't cost anything to join and I'm sure many of the guests could have good positive input to the varied topics on the forum if they were members.

Shouldn't all of our members talk it up with their friends to join?

  1. They are shy.
  2. They have seen what abuse some members receive and have decided to avoid the drama.
  3. They are afraid of jumping into the fray. Not because of what others would say to them, but of what they would say to other people. As we all know, some members, and some discussions, can really get you worked up!
  4. They may feel unwelcome, or discouraged to join. On every forum, chat room, online cyberclub I have belonged to over the years, there are those who declare themselves defacto administrators simply because they have been a member for a while, and as such choose to target newbies just because...
  5. They simply can't be bothered and would prefer to casually observe instead of becoming too involved.
  6. They simply want tourney info, or info on cues, etc., or maybe they just want to learn about free streams, and this is the place.
  7. They do not feel like having their membership statuses or their number of posts, green or red reps or vCash and other nonsense questioned by "veteran" members who seem to think these items matter, and that somehow they should qualify a new person from posting or participating in certain threads.
  8. They could be intimidated. There are many on here who possess vast amounts of knowledge on just about every aspect of the games.
  9. They may not feel comfortable with their spelling or grammatical skills.
  10. Because membership is not required.
  11. They have better things to do.
  12. They would rather shoot pool than talk about it...:)

That's all I have for now...:)

Right where you log in is a little box that says "remember me". Click on it and it will keep you signed in until you log out.

unfortunately , this will also sign you in automatically when your ip address returns to the site . . .
so if you share a computer with other users ( such as the desktop in the poolroom office) or even share a wireless router ( many laptops in the same room/office/dorm) the other users may automatically log on as you .
They may not even realize the computer logged them on as you , and accidentally post a reply that does not represent your views under your name.
Worse , they may think they have a "sense of humor" , realize they are logged in as you , and INTENTIONALLY send prank messages . . . :frown:

I posted in NPR 20 minutes ago . But when I went to post this , I wasn't logged in anymore . So I guess I was 'guest' for a while .

BTW , there is a way for unregistered guests to reply on topics , because I have occasionally seen replies by "guest" with post count of n/a in some of the threads.

Guests

Some of those guests are probably at work and are probably not supposed to be here in the first place. Not that I would know anything about that.....

I know a lot of people who just read the forums but don't post because they don't want to get caught up in all the BS. Can't say that I blame them. I guess the rest of us are just masochists like that. :)

Actually, a very perceptive list. As a new member, I can tell you that this place can be tough:
one word, lazy
It also is hard to be accepted. I'm sure they notice that new people tend to be ignored, along with the ridicule. Unfortunately, it is exactly the same, on a lot of boards. It is a fact of life, that a lot of guests never become members on any board, based on some of the rough treatment they see, on some of the posts. I decided to bite the bullet, because, I am not worried about a hassle. This place is not as rough as some of the Harley boards I visit/ or moderate on, and mostly, BECAUSE IT HAS A WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE. To any lurkers out there, you are cheating yourself by not becoming a member. If you take your time getting going, and try not to alienate anyone for a while, it will be fine. It's just like life. Let people get to know you, and eventually, you won't be ignored.

Could it be they dod not join as their user name they wanted was already taken, or they can not recall a password.

You make a very good point about some posters being afraid of being bashed for their first post.

I am not talking about the occasional "well, you asked for it" responses. I'm talking about the daily, "let me poke him in the eye one more time posts". I've always believed that the surly, mean-spirited comments from a few disrespectful posters found on this forum keeps potentially valuable posters from interacting with other posters. It is probably the single biggest problem on the forum, imo.

Cyber-bullies like to run in packs and contribute to the negativity that is perceived by those who simply lurk or who read that type of post and never come back to the forum. Maybe one day, the owners of the site will make changes to cut down on the cyber-bullies. For the most part, they do a pretty good job of that but a moderator can't read every post.

So if you read a post that you think violates the forum rules, report the post. The forum rules are listed as STICKY notes at the top of the main forum.

You can report a post anonymously by clicking on the little grey box with the ORANGE bar at the bottom of the grey box, which is located just below your avatar. (If you want to send some rep, you can click the left grey box with the blue bar and that will get sent direct to the poster you are referring to).

I am not an APA player and I am getting abused on AZB!
Regards,
Lock N Load.

Lock,
You have taken a few hits from some of the members of this forum but I think some of them have just been testing your mettle. If they ever meet you on the table, they might find out just how tuff you really are. In the meantime, keep on posting, some of the posts that might seem mean-spirited are just a spur of the moment posts and the poster doesn't always mean any ill-will with their post.

Sometimes, it is a little hard to read the inflection in a post, since we only have the written word to deal with.

Just noticed this one...hilarious for those who read your other post.

Did you ever notice that when you play with a Chinese cue....
...an hour later you're hungry for action?:groucho:
