Why buy Hightower or bassel lathe?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I have owned 5 HighTowers, 3 Bludworth CNC's, 2 Porpers, one being Joes very first B Lathe, A Unique, a Mid America and bought parts from Bazzel. This is not counting the large machinists lathes and other power tools.

Now with that being said I always had to buy and keep buying more things. If I did a DIY selfer I wouls still end up having to buy some needed stuff from 1 or all of them.

There is a great video of a girl gluing tips on and shaping the tips with a grinding wheel. God Bless her but I will just continue to buy from those that do rather than bring self inflicted headaches on myself.

K1019 kit with.590 headstock 158.95
1060 4 jaw chuck 65.20
1/3 hp motor and controller 70.00

8020 stuff I have laying around for extension ,steady rest and brackets
Couple bucks for pulley and belt if I dont have one

Maybe 300 bucks and change to do basic stuff

The best answer I can give is just to quote numerous customers.
They say something like, "I thought I would save myself some money and put my own lathe together. I wish I had come to you in the first place as I spent more and still don't have as nice of a lathe."
For instance $300 was mentioned above and there is no 36" bed just 15". No lathe pins, no tailstock drill chuck, concaved live center, lathe pins precision steady rest, collets or DVD. Buy all that and you will spend around $800 and have to put it all together yourself to save $50 and the parts will not be as nice and you have to assemble it. But hey I don't mind you going the do it yourself route as I have sold many thousands of dollars worth of parts to help people make their Taig set up and Mini Lathes do what they thought they would do out of the box.

Some time I want to talk to you about the epxoy finish. Seems like you have some new ideas on doing them that are good. Since that is the type of finish I have used for many years, anything that makes it more fool proof would be great to learn. After reading your other post I found out ten seconds microwave on cue cote is more than the few seconds you mentioned.
