they use African ivory in cues, There are more elephants alive in Africa now than anytime in history since they started game counts a little over 100 years ago, There are problems with populations in Asia and it is criminal to harvest elephants from those areas, There are a few areas in Africa that have diminished populations and there should be no harvesting of elephants there either.
I have lived in Africa for 6 months in the bush and know alot about game/elephants, I almost went into the safari biz a few years ago, but for political reasons (Robert Mugabe) I didnt-good move.
Very little in known or understood by Americans watching TV. I refuse to even attempt to educate people who have their minds made up because Animal Planet said "they are endangerered".
Not using ivory isnt going to stop a hungry broke poacher from blasting a elephant, its a nice thought to be a good guy and not use ivory, but it ends there, just a noble thought, not reality.
BTW, elephant meat is good, dosent taste like chicken, more like Kobe beef.
Black Rhino's are about gone in the wild, its a shame they were all shot, there are a few left, I was lucky enough to see one and her calf up close one time in 150 days in the bush, it is legal to shoop poachers who are hunting Black rhino's-they shoot them on the spot, no trial, due process nothing, Laws are different in Zimbabwe. Its illegal to poach elephant as well as it should be, but it is possible to harvest some elephants without having any impact on the population. Anyone who impacts a population should be hung by their nuts. Its a matter of game managment. But thats to hard to understand so lets just hate everyone who kills elephants.....the easy way instead of learning..
