Why do my tips always glaze?

Tip glazing usually occurs when you consistently hit too hard, or when you don't chalk often enough. The chalk you use might have something to do with it, damp chalk can be a secondary cause for glazing because you think you are using more than you are.

I glaze any tip I have ever tried and after a month the phenolic on my BK2 that I now play with will end up smooth as glass.....

I play more than a tip outside of center and I tend to use a swerve to get my BHE to work instead of a manual pivot....

Sounds to me you are an english user that doesn't use the "proper" pendulum stroke.....

Just make it a part of your routine to rough the tip before each session but don't use a scuffer or a tool that removes a ton of material....... I'd say buy a tip pick but then you can screw up a layered tip.... just carry a piece of fine sandpaper and just touch it up before your night of play... No shaping just kind of an exfoliation.....

All my tips do too! I just pick it before I use it.
My nose glazes too once in a while.:p

Ding Ding Ding Ding. Best answer yet. I chalk after every shot as part of my pre shot routine, and hardly ever miscue unless I just get in a hurry and hit it bad. And my tips rarely glaze over. I use Kamui blacks with the Kamui tip tool and one going over every week or two is more than enough.

If you still have a problem miscuing I would take a look at the speed of your backstroke. You can only go forward in line as good as you can stop it going back.

I feel mine glaze too quickly too,...and it pisses me off.

I have issues though. I can not hit the friggin CB easy, I am a masher, sadly.

What kind of chalk do you use? Anything different than your pool pals? Recently I tried some cheap Chinese chalk. It was $8.00 for half a gross on eBay. I figured if I didn't like it, I could always just give it to friends or to the local bar. Well this stuff was so bad that it would be MISSING from my tip after two or three shots AND it would glaze my tip. I didn't know chalk could be this bad. I threw it all in the trash. Point is, at least extrapolating from this experience anyway, I figure different chalks may at least contribute somewhat to glazing.

Fatz

I used Masters, then Blue Diamond, now Kamui .98. Chalk after every shot with each.

I find mine glaze over after too many pints [Guinness]. Going home to rest, and then coming back, refreshes me and my eyes are back to normal (non-glazed).

Mine glaze too. I was hoping for a good solution. SVB breaks with his player and I don't see him miscueing. What kind of tip does he use?

Try using a softer, layered tip. Leather with a good thickness to it. Thinner, harder tips can glaze easier because the get compacted quickly. Look at the thin tips on most house cues, where the majority are severely glazed. Also, brush the chalk onto the tip rather than grinding the tip with the chalk. You don't have to hit hard to achieve a hard hit.

I use masters chalk, and I can grind down a 1/4 cube in a set,it's not to much chalk,I don't think there ever is too much.

How long does a tip last for you?If it's been on there for 10,000 balls that's what you can expect. They are leather they need to be shaped and scuffed, and used as in worn down.

I'm a tip grinder I even grind down G10 break tips

nothing should last forever,if it glazes shape it.

I'm not sure there are any, certainly not for the US version of pool.

Ah yes, the US pool, where we have 10 inch buckets and 2 inch balls and slop counts in every game. It's a wonder we ever loose a match.

Honestly though, it sounds like you just need to ease up a bit and not hit them so hard all the time. I have never heard of anyone having trouble with every tip. This tells me it is more than likely on your end.

I used to hit them way to hard, still do on occasion. A better player taught me not to let the CB get away and to only hit it as hard as needed to get position. Once I grasped that I noticed I won more and my equipment lasted longer.

I do, but it always seem to glaze over in the same spot - something which nobody has addressed yet. Why should this be?

Thaiger, I think it's the WAY you chalk.
Gotta feeling you use pressure when you apply the chalk.

Paint it on, like an artist...

pt..<..who hates HEARING people chalk

No, I slip it on like it's going on an extra virgin's foreskin, which I learnt to do from a village idiot's youtube video. ;)

But I LIKE hitting them hard! It doesn't help that I endlessly fiddle with them as well.
