Why do people from Ohio think Ohio is the epicenter of Pool?

pool is in the tri states blood

in the cincinnati OH and Kentucky area you have birth place of 3 of the top tables of all time. Brunswick,Diamond,National. some one was buying them to keep em in the green.

Ohio

I am from ohio and I know there are some great players. After I graduated college I moved to GA. I'm a little north of Atlanta an every week I see Archer, Putnam and Davenport playing. Along with tons of other high caliber players.

I just love to watch this game played the way its suppose to be. Gem City Classic held here attracts the top talent in the US and someday I'll be playing with them (someday). I watched a handful of locals play in the Gem City and hold there own against champions. Talent is here and growing. But there is talent everywhere.

Akron

I haven't lived in Ohio in over a decade so my opinion may be a little dated. In 89 or 90 I watched Max Ebrle beating up on Kenny K. and looked over and saw 10 guys just waiting for him to quit so they could take their shot. The reason that sticks out to me is because as a member of the military I have been stationed in CA., Va., TX. and NC. and even in a place where the money was 10 times easier to get 99% of the "good" players would run from that game. When a B player(me) offering to play even asked the best player for a 100 miles in Killeen TX to play all I could get was 10 a game. Thats the big difference I've found over the years maybe Starchers was just that place and MHO is wrong.

I'm not gonna debate weather Ohio is the epicenter of pool or not but I remember a funny story from 25 years ago.
One of the patrons of Hi-Q billiards in Toledo, Joe Mcghee, was out in Vegas for a league tournament. In his free time, he was looking for some 9-ball action in the local pool rooms. He wasn't having much luck getting a game and was getting frustrated. He said something like "What's a guy gotta do to get a game of 9 ball?" and someone replies "If you really want some action in 9 ball, go to Toledo Ohio"

I still laugh my ass off.

Hardly pool related, but Ohio produced the longest palindromic word in
the English language....english?..maybe it is pool related.

..anyways, in pioneer days, the settlers and Indians smoked a non-tobacco
mixture called 'Kinnikinnik'....spells the same way back to front

I moved from Ohio 20 years ago and I thought I had smoked everything that state had to offer! Learn something new every day.

Sure there's been a couple of good players from there but......

Okay, make your case.

Best,
Brian kc

If you have to ask, you probably wouldn't understand.....

As a side note, Cincinnati has the highest rate of people who have moved away, for whatever reason, jobs, military, the old "Grass is greener thing", and have returned! I'm one. I moved to Miami Florida when I got out of the Navy after Viet Nam, lived there almost 9 years and could not wait to move back! We have Skyline Chili, Graeters Ice Cream (the absolute best on the planet) La Rosas Italian Food, White Castles and several other specialty foods that are enough to make us happy to live here even when the Bengals and Reds suck! At least we have 2 major sports franchises in the city which is more than most cities can say. Not to mention some of the best pool players in the country!
