Why do people say Adams?

Just wondering when and where this mistake started? It's ADAM not ADAMS. Sorry, guys, it's just a pet peeve of mine. I'm sure I'd get the same response from people if I was to start calling Balbushka cues Balabushkas.

I was surprised when I came back to pool after 25 years to see ADAM cues. I wondered if it was the same company because in the 60s-70s we always called them ADAMS. Remember, there was no internet and you only saw cues at a pool room or billiard supply house. The house man at my home room called them ADAMS I guess. Wish I still had my top of the line cue with the three shafts, one being a snooker shaft. Oodles of MOP inlays...Tom

I think for a lot of people its just a plural. like fatboy collects buska's, and i collect adam's, cause i cant afford them boti's. but i do have several viking's!
But i do hate when someone says something like " I used to have an adams."

Hey Mully, I think it occurred when they were first used in the movie th Adams Family. Remember the scene when Gomez was playing pool, I think he was using an Adams Cue!!!!!

Jay, just a correction if I may.
Plural form would be Adams, Bushkas, Vikings or Botis.
They are proper nouns to me so I just add the S.
If they were acronyms like ABC's, you add the apostrophe.
I think people just say Adams because it's a last name.
Not a first name.

I had an Adam ;) cue that I bought new back around 84' or 85'. I paid $225 retail for the cue which wasn't cheap for a cue back then. Does anyone have a catalog from that period so I can figure out which one a bought? I wouldn't mind reacquiring the same model for nostaligic reasons. :)
thanks

adding 's the the end of a name shows ownership. if were to repair your cue i wouls be repairing mully's cue not mully cue. i can understand though.

how many ppl play with JOSH cues? lol that one gets me. like mayuchie or moochie

The first ADAM cue I ever saw was owned by a local fellow and he told me he had an "ADAMS" cue. I didn't know the difference and I thought it was an ADAMS. Now I find out it's ADAM......

I think people say Adams because they are just lax. Most people hear the word Adams more than they hear Adam, so they say what is most familiar to them; if they were a little more careful they would say Adam.
