Why do players rub their hand across the felt part of the rail?

Have you ever noticed a player rubbing their hand across the felt part of the rail (at the cushion)?

I see the pro's do it from time to time, and I am just curious why they do that?

They may do it all of the time, but I do not watch enough pool to notice just how often they do it.

It does not make any sense to me.

Thanks for giving me any insight or opinions on why players do this?

I understand that it is just a silly and probably a stupid question, but I always wondered why the players do that.

Thanks.

I rub my hand on my pant leg, partly to wipe sweat, but I also think there's a psychological component to it. Maybe it's a subconscious way of grounding myself. Maybe it's a form of "stimming."

It also makes my fingertips more sensitive to touch.
