Why do you do that?

I hate that guy that has a Hustlin shirt, an expensive case full of expensive cues, all kinds of cue gadgets, is barely an APA 5 and always asks for the 7 from the good players.......Wait, that's me.........nevermind!

I really hate the guy that is so impolite that all he does is drop scuds around the table or burps loud, and I really hate the guy that cheers for you to make a mistake. Why do they think that's OK?

Never seen this

I would go say something if I ever saw this.

I did laugh at the thought of someone being this stupid though... Wow

Yep, I just kinda cringe and go on about my business lol! I see this regularly at one of the places I go here in town. On league nights if I am up at the pool hall still I see the same few people do it week after week. Rediculous! It's a nice way to pound divots into the cloth. I am hoping the newly redone tables will cut back on this but I doubt it:rolleyes:

I agree if its for a prolonged time or quite a few times, its unnecessary. But say for example, if I play a safety and I'm not sure how close it is to being able to hit it clean, I will look at it. The main reason for this is I want to know what I should be looking for that would indicate a foul on my opponent. If its something that would be obvious like hitting an obstructing ball, then I walk away. But if its something that requires some knowledge I will inform my opponent or ask for someone to watch the shot.

Don't be in such a hurry to run to the table.....it'll help work on patience when you're stuck in the chair while someone is running out :)

Good points!

i think arps got it wrong or is trying to be a pacifist. I carry my own chalk also but don't have it when i didn't plan on playing so it becomes a problem (but it still does when i have my chalk, even when i'm not playing). I even see this at pro tourneys and at TAR, when the shooter has to go and ask for chalk or wait till the guy brings it back.

your opponent checking his leave, he'll know if i hit the ball how good he did. and i don't ask him if i can see it, i'll know when i get there (what if you can't see it are you not going to shoot the ball)

kids running, karaoke, people yelling? you must be talking about your bar league or you go to the room to early or on the wrong nights. but these are not focus issues my friend, it's pool etiquette, I don't quit remember the old time players doing this and which is prob why most of these guys are posting some of the same complaints. None of us expect these things to happen at a tourney or when serious pool is being played.

Focus? you must be the same guy who continuously ask "what do i have" right after an 8 ball break, right after i just shot strip and ran 5-6 balls........... WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE

Did you notice that he lives in the Philippines?

my friend, these "distractions" are what i deal with everytime i play. im sure the pool hall where you play at is a very nice place. unfortunately, where i play at has more of a gambling atmosphere. people talking while you shoot is very common. the pool hall is even right next to the road where public transportation passes. sure, i'm pissed with those kinds of noise but i've learned to ignore them and focus solely on my playing. i have to realize that there are things beyond my control and i just have to deal with them.

although i definitely agree with you about pool etiquette - there's somehow a set general of etiquette here in PI that common players agree on, and they respect it. i respect it. when it's serious pool, it's serious pool - i agree with you on that. but we cant deny the fact that there will always be people who will shark you and take advantage of your weaknesses. if someone plays you and discovers that you get pissed when he chalks after shooting, then he'd probably do it more often.

and please dont insult my knowledge in pool, especially 8-ball. it is my favorite game.

No personal insult intended, and apologies for giving the impression.

I do how ever like your reply better than your original post, and also agree with you 100% on working on that aspect of the game. I am good friends with several room owners one of them being Spanish, and although I go to each for different reasons I go to his for the distractions, this is to help me stay focused during tournaments.

Ou ou ou

"Ooh boy, this has got to be a good on"

No one mentioned.................................... (wait for it)

Earl Strickland

Lmao, I really liked that one

no problem man. ;)
contrary to what i described, there are also good spots here in PI where there's less distractions and noise. but the gambling part is always there - i guess there's just more thrill when money is at stake and it also tests how good you are in handling pressure (still part of pool training).

My favorite, the local "overly nice" guy. Every shot I make when running out gets a "good shot man" or an "ohhhh nice one." Apparently I only make good shots against him because when I play others he is perfectly silent. STFU when I'm playing it's a move and he knows damn well it is. I call him on it and I'm a jerk to spectators.

ok wait, one more, does this drive anyone else nuts?

"you never shoot like that when you play me"
"how come you always make that shot vs. me?"
"you ALWAYS run out against me"

Sometimes, it's like they're trying to take credit for your good shooting... like "I inspire you to shoot great" or "you must really bear down against me, because I'm such a tough opponent."

Actually, I run out more against the guys where I can relax totally and I have zero fear of missing.

I'm making a list of all of the annoyances and going to try them out on my opponents. :D

Nope! Same three douches again today lol:eek::D

Don't forget to jump up an down with your arm out wide..with cue
in hand while you sing..I did it..I did it.

Had this happen to me once..I was dumb founded..maybe,even
shocked a little..I wasn't mad..It took all I had not to bust out
laughing...couldn't figure out why all the excitment..well
it was the first time She had beat me..but hell..I'm not that good.
she got me more ways then one..

What drives me nuts

when people from the next table lean on the table I am playing on with their butts! like how rude, dont know where thier heads are at!
like no consideration, or people that come up to me when I am practicing and stand there and watch.. thats usually whe I will take a break..
or whe I am using any ball as the cue for practice drills and they tell me.. ," you know you are shooting with the wrong ball"
like get a life hu?

You live in the RP and you're talking about Pool etiquette? I can't tell you how many Pinoy's I see Smoking at the table every week??? They just seem to try to get away with whatever they can? And the girls the girl's and even guy employee's are normally "afraid" to say something to Kuya???? Don't want any confrontation. Any pool player worth his/her salt knows it's NEVER Okay to smoke at the table:thumbup:

"Spectator's" literally leaning against the table while you shoot...granted that's just "everyday" Pinoy's...not the one's you see on TV.

The most annoying thing...even amongst some pretty damn good players.....is the Pinoy's odd "habit" of wanting to practice a shot they missed between racks:angry:

Rack the balls and let's get on with it....this isn't your personal practice session??? We are in the middle of a match here.. Bong/Bhoy/Bebot??....... It drives me MAD!

Remember Peach vs Bustamante in 2007. Even watching it live it was a foul..... Daryl "reportedly" had to be escorted out of the venue afterwards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R8YuHAA-nQ

Trying to talk to me
Bragging when they suck....guy named gilbert at my poolhall
Talking crap when they arent even playing....also gilbert
Trying to justify a miss by saying "i did it on purpose"
Saying "nice shot" or "good game"
Drunks
Idiots that dance by the tables
Karaoke

I don't know Gilbert, but I agree on the most part with SpongeBobFreak
However, People speaking Spanish, don't bug me because I speak Spanish, French, Italian, Good English and Bad Engrish. I also don't care if people speak Chinese, Belgium, Korean, Japanese, or whatever they speak in mainly cuz I don't care.

I think there are only two things that actually bother me at a pool hall:

1: Listening to pool players trying to match up. They all know how each other plays and are just trying to get the nuts. Half the time(or more) they will ask for a spot, someone will say yes, then they don't play. Quit whining, if you want to gamble, make a game any play it......save the rest of the room listening to 15 minutes of the same shit every day.

2: Watching someone give "lessons" to beginner players. Normally they are trying to show them how to use side spin on a ball when the beginner clearly has stroke issues. Or they are explaining how something works using terms and explanations that are not right. I never interrupt and correct them, as that's just rude and bad form, but it irritates me as this is something that will really hinder a beginner's game, and they have no idea.
