Just like the title says! If you have multiple reasons, you may choose them.

I recently had a character issue with myself at league testing my integrity to the game which brought me to this poll.

here is the story if you care

SO, Why do YOU play Pool League???

to compete?

to drink?

to just get out for the night?

to gamble?

to qualify for a state/regional/national tournament?

I chose compete, get out, and qualify. Drinking may or may not ensue lol. As an average player, I feel competition in general helps my game

Sometimes I really wonder why I play league anymore. I play to help out my son's team. And I guess it's simply for the joy of playing that one person that will give me a match or to feel the satisfaction of tearing an opponent apart that says he's really good. An environment like this totally allows me to get my "Earl" on.

Don't get me wrong, I play well but I am no pro. For real challenges I go into Dallas and play in tourneys with the big dogs. Here is where I learn.

The reason I join a league was the fact that I never joined anything when I was younger .

Leagues do not help your game in my opinion , what helps your game is to compete in many different tourny's , Different Players and Different Skill levels .

Now I'm a 4 in the APA and really I should be a 5 or a 6 but are league opp. doesn't really keep good track of the Skill levels .

Now I competed in a few different Tournys this past month with alot of really good players that I've never played before and they were really hard to beat , I recently came in 2nd at a 8-ball tourny and I don't play 8-ball that often and I really had to play well or else I would have been out in the first two rounds .

Like I said just in my opinion Leagues don't make you better .

I dont think league makes my game, but being inexperienced, playing different people on a weekly basis in a competitive basis certainly help me.

I found in singles tournaments the mood just sucks. No one is ever happy for you if you win and I can't tolerate the tournament director allowing one really slow player to force me to wait around til 2 am so I can split in the end money that I don't even need.

In Bca league we shoot from 730 to 1030 and we are having fun drinking and cheering and I feel appreciated for winning instead of a villian for knocking a weaker player out of a tourney.

I play in leagues for the camaraderie. I have met a lot of great people through playing in leagues. A few A$$'s along the way but for the most part good people that I enjoy hanging out with. I have met people that have helped my game as well as I have helped others. I play on a team now with my wife and my daughter just for fun but we have been winning quite a bit.

Even though I'm on a 5-man team, I am really just playing so that I can see where I rank versus everyone else.

I practice at home....and have gotten quite good. But what is the sense of being really good, if you can't torture others....haha.

BTW....this year I have the highest average in my division by at least 2 full points....out of about 75 players. So I feel satisfied if I can maintain the highest average in my division -- that is really all I play for.

EDIT: I should add....that I found out yesterday....that I've only lost 3 GAMES so far this year....out of 14 weeks. (We play 3 games each a night -- singles).

I play BCAPL and enjoy it very much.
We have alot of good players and I like to compete..
I think it helps my game...

Living in the wilds of Vermont.....about all that is available is league play. I have gone to a few bars and nightclubs here that have tables but for the most part I usually end up playing alone. Just doesn't seem to be too many players out to bang a few. I enjoy the competitive aspect, the many friends I have made, and the usually casual atmosphere that accompanys league play.

I just started playing a UPA league, the only reason I played was because the owner of the room I play at is a friend and he talked me into it. I have to say it is a joke IMO, the only upside is it is on big tables and in house. I have played 3 times so far and lost one game in the 3 sets I have played and I only lost that one because I decided to shoot at everything.

I do not feel it is beneficial to my game, it actually might be bad for it as the competition are mostly C and D players. I think league pool is good for people looking for a night out or something but I doubt it will do much to improve my game.

Another gripe is that the money is crap, my team is easily destroying all the other teams, we are guaranteed to win the in house league but the money stinks. So if you cant improve your game and cant make any money then what is the point to play?, night out of beer and fun I guess.

I'm new to the game, and I'm playing to learn. And to have fun. And maybe a few beers, I suppose. :o

Hopefully I will someday get to be so good at this that Leagues will be beneath me. I don't expect that to happen anytime soon. I'm having a ball, meeting some cool folks, and learning a bit. And to top it off, we're doing OK as a team, too. (Not the primary reason I'm playing, but hey, it's cool to win if we can.)
