Why does Earl wear weights?

PLACEBO.........

Nuff said, it's all in his head. But hey, he thinks they work therefore: THEY WORK. (for him)

Agreed, well stated. Not unlike buying a 2000 dollar cue to make you play better. If you think it works, then it will. Me? I'll stick to my .50 cent rabbit's foot. Freakin thing is awesome!

Is it acceptable for pool players to change the position of their weight bands during play? Wouldn’t that have a similar effect as a golfer adjusting the bias on a driver during a match?

Because Earl had a stroke.

A Stroke Of Genius!!!

Sorry, one of my favorite lines from the Producers...

Earl knows what works for him. It's funny how people make jokes about him but they would gladly wear Earls weights to play his speed. Who can tell Earl he's wrong? There's not but a few walking the planet his age that plays his speed. That pretty much sums it up.

true that he wears the weights on his left arm to help him from coming up on his shot. during the turning stone he had a tennis cover over the wrap on his cue, it gave him a "softer" feeling of the cue. he is a very very technical guy, both shooting and tables. I believe that is why he would not shoot mike dechaine on the tv table, he had stated in an earlier match that the rails were too bouncy or something. so he is sure not going to play mike on a table he is not liking. his next idea is to make a 10 ft diamond with no side pockets. the guy is a genius and one hell of a player, he is maybe my favorite player to watch when he is in the zone. he has his problems but what a great player. it would be a travesty of justice not to have him on the mosconi team, especially after the win at turning stone. if he does not get on the team is is merely politics and I will not watch the matches thereafter. I mean we have been losing, let's get a player THAT CAN SHOOT against the europeans. let him go off on them, just bring home the cup.

i asked him that question at a tournament a few years ago
weight was on left arm at that time
he stated it helped him stay down on the shot

I'd be too embarrassed to play with weights on in public. :embarrassed2:

That is not a WestCoast attitude my friend. Compare that to full color, full body tattoos, pierced noses, nipple rings, faux hawks, pink hair, Miley Cyrus and Dennis Rodman in a wedding gown. You wouldn't even get noticed out here!

Everyone knows golf has specific rules about equipment. In pool, it seems like nothing is illegal. You can shoot with a barstool or just a shaft, wear weights, goggles, earbuds, whatever.

A lot of interesting replies. I am fairly new to pool and was just curious if maybe practicing at the house like that may help my stroke. Or was it just an Earl thing to screw with his opponents.
Thanks for all the replies.
He is one of my favorite players to watch.

He was, before he started putting weights on his arms. Dude is cray.

Since when, has ankle weights, arm weights, safety glasses, earmuffs, and weaing the same clothes for 4 days, been considered "cray"? :rotflmao1:

Earl

has one of the most fluent strokes I have ever seen in 52 years, without the weights. He may be a little nutty, but it is pure 'poetry in motion' when he is shooting...

I have noticed that Earl wears weights on his arms. However it always seems to be different. Sometimes the left sometimes the right . Sometimes one weight sometime two. Why?
Because the tin foil on his head bothered other competitors

Agreed sir. If wearing a pink toto:eek::eek::eek: would allow me to play at his speed over night (his top gear of course), sign me up every day of the week:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:.

Whatever works - go with it.

Still waiting for him to wear this outfit:
