Why don't people use their real names or pics in avatar?

Probably not, Quad 50 from the late 60's...early 70's. Doesn't show too well shame it isn't bigger.

My smiling face is in my avatar. The rest of the avatar is a tribute to one of the greatest posters ever on AZB, Smorg. I use my nickname that is on my checking account, driver's license, and has been on a half-dozen or so businesses when I can. When "Hu" isn't available I use "ShootingArts", my domain name for many years and my name in several other businesses.

However, physical stalking is not unknown. Two pro pool players tried stalking me due to posts right here on AZB. Being pro pool players their combined IQ wouldn't break a hundred so while I was in plain sight at the time they didn't find me. Someone else that lived within fifty miles of me made death threats right here on AZB. If any of these goofballs show up on my front door I want to be able to say I didn't make it easy for them when talking to cops.

Years ago a friend got punched when he opened his door to an internet stalker. I also got death threats along with a bunch of other people on a firearms forum. Not as funny when you are dealing with someone that can hit a gnat's ass at a quarter mile.

So, multiple reasons for using an alias, including some just enjoy doing it. I got a chuckle out of good friend JoeyA fussing about it years ago. He didn't realize that the whole world didn't know who "JoeyA" was!

Hu

(PS: Apologies to many pro players. I have known many on both ends of the IQ spectrum!)

Besides it is called "Avatar", not "Life like picture of you". Avatars are representations of a person. People are individuals that express themselves in different ways. When this new forum launched the first thing I noticed was the letter circles. Boring and stagnant, everyone was the same. Then slowly it came to life as everyone began adding their personalities. If everyone just added their mugshot it would just be boring and stagnant again. Plus I would get nervous with all of you people starring at me all the time.

When I joined AZB, i used my eBay user name so potential buyers and sellers could reference my reputation there, too.

Is this place like a professional conference or more like a gentleman's club?

Maybe we don't want to look at you... but instead you are forcing your grisly visage unto us...
How long have you be speaking for this entire group.

Are you referring to the we I am part of or the we that I am not part of?

You are a smart cookie trying to talk me into a trap.

I'm speaking for the we that you are not a part of. The "we" that shares who they are on occasion when trust is earned and not just open about it on the internet. I'm not completely anonymous here and have met many members here IRL.

Straight up asking people who they are and why the don't use their real photos is a bit shady, and creepy... Why do you need to know who I am and what I look like prior to us having this dialogue. What does it matter?

...and what the hell are you talking about talking you into a trap? Honestly, I don't care who you are and what you look like. Don't take it personal. I just don't. We aren't friends. You are just another stranger on the internet.

You want to get together and have some beers at the expo or something like that (provided this pandemic shitshow ever ends), count me. Then you can see what I look like and learn more about me.

I bought advanced byrnes book (> 20 years), and read those people profiles. I posted this in another thread. I think this is the right place. I have verified that the people in the book are real and not fake news. I have also been at real pool events. I know I am real, but last time this place turned into IPT and TAR babies.

This is my umth attempt at being nice on this forum.

If you know me are you in the same live conference I am in for my profile. Some smart people here too, they seem shy though.

That my real cue and a real broom handle with a tip in my avatar.
As for the name, it's been used since 1994. No need to change it now.

I wonder if there is a stat on the forums of how many people have an account on their ignore list, not for any particular reason, just curious.
