Why have weekly tournaments on the same night?

I know this question has been asked before but has it been answered?

I live and play in an area with few 9' tables.There are numerous weekly bar table tournaments.There are but two 9 ball tourneys on 9' tables and they are both on the same night.

As a pool player I am curios,has anyone else around the county had this or similar happen in their area?

That is unusual. Are they on a weekend night (Fri-Sat-Sun) or weekday night? If weekday, the room owners could get together and agree to hold them on separate weekday nights (Tue-Wed-Thurs being the best nights).
If weekend night, not the best time for a 9 foot tournament. Here in the Midwest, my location, 9 foot tournaments are rare to begin with.

Most players play on bar tables here, and the 'ACTION' is usually associated with Bar tables and tournaments. I realize though that it is different depending on where you live.

Sunday afternoon is a good time for a 9 foot tournament, as even the bar table players look for something to do on Sunday.
 
I think the reason that there are so many tourneys on the same night, is that must be the slowest night for business and the owners are looking to get more business on the slow nights. Maybe all the players concerned could organize tournaments and approach the owners with the plans for the tourney and let the owners know what kind of tourney, how many people and other things to increase his bottom line. If you make money for him, he will be more open to what you have in mind. Maybe even mini tours of the locals in the smaller areas would generate more business and open up more nights for tourneys.

Probably need some more information to determine the reason. First would be which night it was on.

If it's a Tues./Wed/Thurs night then I'd ask what nights leagues play at the 2 different places?

What kind of turnout do they both get? Same entry? Same Payout? Same Race? If you are in an area where you have tons of players I could see them both existing, but most likely not.

There is a good chance that either they don't like each other, hence they compete at the same time. Which we'll all agree hurts everyone, mostly the players. Or the owners are not players themselves, or aware of the competition across town.

Dig into it, find a solution and suggest it to both places.

Things like this use to happen in Phoenix between various rooms, but they both got hurt by it. Recently it seems the owners have grown up a little bit and decided to communicate, but there are still little mishaps here and there.

I agree, if the owners could work together, then everyone wins.

Thanks everyone for your answers.

I truly hope that we are able to overcome our differences and work together to make the South Puget Sound a great area for pool players.
 
If one room has a problem with it they could move there tournament to another night, seems that would solve the problem if they think its a problem?
Or, Like I said before, maybe players want to have the choice to not play with all the "sharks" or "A" players so they have a chance to get in the money rather than donate.
 
I thought this thread got closed when the 2 room owners agreed to talk about it in person...

I personally think it would be cool to have a choice of tourneys on a given night. I could play in one and then the next week play in the other.

I live in a place that there is only one pool room with 9' tables. They happen to run a Wed night 9 ball tourney. Last time I went into play (the only tourney in town) they didn't have enough players. I found out that on a good night they might get 12...:(

Count your blessings that you have choices. My only choice is a barbox race to 1 double elim (APA rules) 8 ball tourney on Friday night with a $6 buy in. A full field pays about $80 for first. The other is a barbox race to 2 double elim 9ball (no push out) for $5 on Saturday.

I haven't been back to the Wed night tourney, why drive 1/2 to not play?
