Why I don't like Diamond Barboxes

yup I agree. at bca nationals and state, they have red and blue label bar boxes, so you have to adjust from table to table. the red labels are ridiculous

As far as I'm aware, most of the reds here in the PDX area have been changed out. I think Glen may have done that himself, I'm not sure.

Having learned on Valleys, it was a hard switch trying to play on Diamonds during the few occasions it required(mostly regional or league tournaments). When I do get the speed down, though, they're a great thing. I'm looking forward to playing on one regularly in the future.

Personally, I enjoy playing on the super springy diamonds bb w/ 760. You may not be able to let your stroke out, but you get to play super touch shots. A big part of being a good player is adaptation to conditions, no?

There are two kinds of Diamond BB. The old one which has the "red lable" on the short rail, which has the typical "springy" rails. They changed it in 2010 wiht the "blue label" with better, less "springy" rails that are more approriate for a barbox.

The problem, is the places that have the red label are not gonna change it out anytime soon, and thus the only blue labels are gonna be from a bar odering a table after 2010. But the blue label barbox plays lights out, and is the NUTS :) A red label still beat the hell out of a valley, but it's not blue lable.. because as mentioned, you have to "bunt" the ball on certain shots, or that cue ball has a mind of it's own :)

A room near me has 8 blue labels. I love hem, probably just the change from 9 footers. I like offense and playing for 100-200 a set race to 5. Sometimes you just lose, you dont have to do anything wrong?

2 weeks back I play a great safe. Guy 2 rail kicked a ball and it went 3 rails and in , then ran 2 balls . It was hill hill to be uo 400 or even. Made me sick. Last week he made a 3 ball combo to win 100 set. I give up the 7 and all the breaks in 9 ball to him, a wild ride. I lost 600 the last 2 times. I will get him this week! I beat him for a lot over 2 years, thousands, so a few hundred is just feeding the fishes.

To me, pool still feels like pool, 'babying' the ball around.

In fact seeing the ball finessed around delicately is what perfect pool looks like...
when your position and patterns are so good you never need to hit hard or draw long distances.
Everything is soft forward rolls, nip draw, and stop shots.
Even on a beat valley barbox, that's what I try to do.

If you wanna let your stroke out, probably need to stick to 9 footers.
I would agree though that 760 is complete overkill for barboxes.
I think by default they come with 860.

The first time I ever played on a diamond BB, I said to my friend, "That's by far the most fun I've ever had playing on a bar box!"
It took me a while to get used to the speed too, but the adjustment I have made on Diamonds vs Valleys is: get straighter in on your shape. You don't need much angle to move the cue ball around.
It''s nice playing on a table where what actually happens is what was supposed to happen.

Speed.

I do like everything else about them, the tighter pockets, the lively cushions, but the speed, imo is too fast. Also must say, Love 9 foot Diamonds. Your stroke just does not translate from a 9 footer to the bar box. Any pool game just ends up being who can hit the softest will be the winner. It just doesn't seem like pool "babying" the ball around, and it is just not fun. I'd much rather play on a valley with fresh mercury ultra cloth, I can keep the same stroke and do what I know I can do with the cue ball. By all means tighten the pockets on a valley or has any one tried mercury ultra on a Diamond BB? curious as to how it would play. Anyways, just my 2cents.

But it's very hard to play touch shots on springy rails, especially safeties, cause you kill the cb on a safety, and that cb still comes off the rail an inch or two. I really don't love red label, but again, still much better than a valley :)

I love em. We have pool room here that has 8 of the blue diamond one's. They play great. Yes they are Fast and springy but to be able to use that soft touch is amazing. Sometimes they get a little to fast but like others said you have to adjust. A little slower cloth will make them play different for sure but with the pocket angle it might be harder to make balls on it. JMO

quit cryn about it

860 is fine when it's not stretched too tightly. Especially on the rails. When stretched too tightly, it's like playing a pin-ball machine.

just play what you're dealt...3 racks of practice should give you relative speeds and if it banks short or long
