Why I'm rooting for Scott

Even though Alex is probably my favorite player on the planet, I find myself rooting for Scott to win their match. I think this is because, like me, Scott struggles with his emotions when he's playing. Heck, maybe like most of us, whether we admit it or not.

I think we all struggle with our emotions when we're under heat.....
....some people make their emotions other people's problems.

Isn't it remarkable how amazingly well-behaved the filipino players are?

I have my own theory on why that is.
Many of them grew up poor. So poor they didn't know where their next bowl of rice is is coming from.
And whining doesn't work. No choice but to learn patience from a young age.
Where as many of us white North Americans learned that we could whine at our parents and get what we want. And then it becomes ingrained and some of us are crazy enough to act like if we whine at the bad rolls in a pool game they will go away. Or even crazier to blame our opponent and whine at him.
:D
I aint no Freud but thats my two cents.

And Alex has to fade not only how tough it is to play Scott at one hole, but has to fade the whining.(and pacing)

Scott's not the only one who is struggling with his emotions.

Alex is having to struggle with Scott's emotions as well...

It is now that you mention it. All of them, quiet, reserved. I like Scott. I understand frustrations get the better of you sometimes. I've always rooted for the underdog in any games I watch, not bet on them just cheering. But I would like to see Alex take this down. He's a helluva all around player and deserves all the good things coming to him. But all in all cheers and cheers for both players. They're both playing incredibly well. Thanks again for the guys posting the updates.

To me it just looks as though he is acting like a little child throwing tantrums. Exactly the kind of person we all can't stand to play. Constantly making excuses, according to him he never hits a bad shot, the table gets him every time and his opponent is the luckiest person in the world.

Funny, that's exactly why I'm not rooting for Scott. Taking the heat is a choice, if you're not composed enough to NOT take it then you choose to not only feel it, but also to spread it around which is just the behavior of a petulant child, Man up.

Agree 100%. All of this stuff about being tired (night 1), tilt, etc...1000000000000% garbage.

You win. You lose. Nothing else matters. Keep your mouth shut, because the table tells us everything we need to know.

The more you explain, defend, excuse, blame...well, I guess I don't have to check the score to know the score.

But everyone is on their own road. Good luck to all.

Oh, so Alex is playing Earl... here I thought it was Frost the whole time ;)

I agree, completely. Yesterday evening I was playing One Pocket when I became emotionally involved with the woman playing on the table next to me. She had this really short skirt on, and...... :D

Emotions during a pool match are negative and the sooner you learn to set them aside, the more advanced game you will play.
Emotions take over your subconscious thoughts and suppress the ability to let your stroke out and tackle the task at hand.
Sure, anger will sometimes force you to bear down and fire, but more often than not, it's an excuse to lose. ( I couldn't play my best game because of the sharking.) That's why sharking for some, is so effective.
Emotional turmoil is a form of sharking. Tossing a break cue, cussing, slamming things around. If it wouldn't be tolerated in a tournament and ruled "unsportsmanlike conduct" then why do you tolerate it?
Unless your last name is Strickland, you can't force out emotion and grab pinpoint concentration easily.

Hecklers from the audience are just as bad. One time I was playing a tournament match and had a heckler seated in the bleachers only a few feet away. He would wait until I took my final backswing before he would say things like "He's going to dog it." I asked him 3 times to stop and he wouldn't. I went and got a large steaming black coffee and from beside the table I told him if he opened his mouth one more time, he'd be wearing the coffee and if he didn't think so, to just say something now. The bleachers around him emptied in less than 5 seconds. He shut up the rest of the match. Nobody would sit near him after that.

I, for one am tired of Scott's 'antics'. Running to the table to check an angle on Alex's shot, constant whining about the table, complaining about bad rolls are all forms of sharking and I expect that in my local pool hall - not from a 'pro' who has stated his goal of representing the US in the Mosconi cup. I was rooting for him to make the team but after watching this, I am not.

Its funny to hear all this commentary but Scott is the one in the arena. He is the one playing one of the toughest players in the world for 25K.

I've seen Parica throw temper tantrums when things were not going his way. Scott is a bigger than life character and if he ain't mother Teresa that is fine.

Alex is one of the greats and has proven it all over the world; for Scott to hang in there and play Alex for big money takes moxie.

This isn't a debutante's ball its a down and dirty play for days action match.

It's a fact of life.....tramps attract Tramps.

I agree that's why I find it hard to cheer for Scott
If it's not the table cloth it's the balls are too dirty or too clean table rolls
He was tired because he was out all night
Also fact he's self proclaimed his way to the top of one pocket

Moreover though I took an old timer who only plays one pocket down to us open one pocket in 13 to watch and I tried to introduce them between Scott's matches and he just gave the limp handshake mumbled thanks bro an took off

Old timer just wanted to tell him he liked his game and wanted picture

Exactly, many here & in the world of pool that gamble have heard these excuses & many others from a plethora of players over the years. It's nothing more than finding an excuse to lose. Deep in his heart I believe he doesn't think or believe he can win and when things go wrong for players like this the grocery list of excuses and antics start. How many gamblers here haven't had to fade playing someone like this & these theatrics and machinations?

I personally love playing players of this weak temperament, once the tantrums start its just a question of how long they'll keep on with their nose wide open because as long as you can grin and bear it it's free money.
