Why is it when you beat a better player even up ...

Just to be objective, the better player when they enter tournaments puts some of their rep on the line as well. Since pool is a game where in a short race like you describe, a race to 5, anyone can win you haven't really beaten anyone.

To come on here and say you beat the guy you would have to have beat him for real. You won a single short race, you didn't bust the guy after a 10 hour session. It is one of the reasons players don't really like to play for fun. They can win nothing but they can lose some of their rep.

If you really thought you could beat him you would have offered to play him with the 8 when he asked for what you were comfortable playing for, maybe $50. or a $100.. I have a feeling you were afraid if you did counter offer he would say yes.

The bold stuff just makes me laugh a bit.

Facts are facts and short race or not the guy got beat and his ego couldn't handle it. F that guy and his attitude then he's challenging the guy for 1k?? PIFT!!!! Tell that guy you need the 6 out and the breaks and a cash transplant and you can play for whatever. Losing shows the real inside of people and in this case its classless and pretty ugly.

SO Macguy you mean to tell me that the OP who obviously BEAT a sound player didn't really win?? If this so-called champion got beat he got beat by a player that played his heart out to win and did so. Race to 5 or not!!

Hell I played Billy Palmer in a even race to 5 at Cochrans in a tournament when I was still a low level B player and won 5-4!! I made one error the entire set and it was barely enough to keep that monster Billy in his chair. I didnt have to win that tournament because I won a trophy match I will always have. I beat a world class player even!! The best part about that match is Billy shook my hand and smiled at me and said.. "Nice shooting kid!! You played the best Ive seen you play yet.." He then walked a way and went to his chair and watch the match on table 6. To me that is class and respect!! He knew I played Jam up pool because I had to and I punished him for every mistake he made (2 might I add) and he owned up to that.

You can take all this ego crap and jam it up ya crack!! This is the problem with pool here in the states. Its a smelly mess of smeg and anybody that believes this is the way pool should be should get an enema :kma:

Tap,Tap,Tap.

Keep up the hard work.

btw who was it that you played?? Was it at Family Billiards??

Doesn't matter who was played it just a theme lately. I've beaten a lot of people I'm not supposed to lately. (Shaky Dave, Eitan, al m, Kentucky). I walk into a pool hall and ask everyone to play. I saw Rodney Morris in sac and asked him to at a even set to 9 for $50. Just tying to step it up and get Better.

This happened to me once in a 14.1 straight pool league my wife and I played in.. It was a Christmas party at the pool hall for the league, had pizza and we had a race to 3. Drew names out of a hat to see who you played. I seldom beat this guy. He owned one of the nicest custom cues I have ever seen. I wanted one just like it but could not afford it. It had an extension that screwed into the butt. In our three game match I lost the lag so I broke. I got a good brake and we played safeties back and forth until he made a mistake and gave me a pretty good shot. I made a thin cut and caught a corner ball coming off the rail for break and ran the rack. I shot well. He got very few shots. When the score was 2 to 0 my favor he quit playing and gave me the last game. He seldom talked to me after that. I thought it was funny. Some people are just bad losers. No big deal. Shoot well my friends.

I wish I was young. I'm 37. My wife gets all the winnings and keeps track. I use my extra tip money from working so much to get better at pool. Not able to play many tournaments. So gambling is my test to get better.

It's good that your wife is in on it. When it comes to this kind of stuff, two accountable heads really are better than one, especially when each has a stake. Wish you the best of luck and I hope you win a lot and put some away for your son's college.

its because they are such poor sports,if you play under me and beat me i will congradulate you and love to see your face light up,of course i am not trying to make a living off of it and the prize isnt a lot of money either, but they think they should never lose, cmon guys its not rocket science, every dog has his day, swallow your pride and be gracious..Thats whats wrong with the game too many sore losers,i think that Mark Wilson is trying to build a mosconi cup team of gentlemen, that are fierce competitors but,. gracious losers....good for Mark, the game needs it

Thank you for the kind words.

I've been guilty of this before in the past. It's tough to swallow getting beat by players a few ranks below because of the handicap or luck or whatever in a short race. I would often let my ego go into self-defense mode and make an idiot of myself by getting upset and making all kinds of excuses (still do on the rare occasion, but not like I used to).

This person can give me 7 all day. I think the problem was it was a even tournament and I missed only 3 balls. Unusual for me.
