Why is...?

After reading a bunch of threads where cue dimensions are tossed about, I am a little curious about something.

Why is the tip diameter the only dimension that is in metric, while all other dimensions are referred to in standard?

I believe because the leather tip sizes were in metric.
You don't find any .512" tips do you? :)

Nah, I don't see them of course. It just struck me as being odd that one dimension is metric while the rest is standard.

Thanks :D

probably to difficult for people to go around saying,"i like my shafts at .499" not .512" or,"you get more action with a tip that is .486"compared to .512?"

The original cue tips came from France and they were using the metric system so it just stuck. Plus all the other reasons given above.
