Why Kamui?

I am currently using a Kamui Medium and I have to say I have never disliked a tip as much as this one.

I absolutely love Moori Mediums however and I will be switching back to that in a few weeks.

My question is, why do so many people choose the Kamui over the Moori? I know it supposedly stays the same hardness throughout but I have found it mushrooms easily and it produces a hit I don't like. Granted I am using an ob-1 shaft so the hit is dead already but I like the feedback that the Moori grants.

I used only Moori Mediums for years then switched to the Kamui Black Mediums. Found them to be too hard and now use the Soft tips and find them to be comparable to the Moori Mediums. They are great tips!!!

Thanks for that info! I myself find the Kamui to be kind of hard as well. It starts out especially hard until you shape it a bit but even then I still am not that impressed.

I'm more just wondering what all the hype is about compared to the Moori?

I use the Kamui Black Super Softs.

Tip is pretty effortless... easy to move the cue ball... doesnt shroom out and holds it's shape... very accurate...

Plus they last a long time.

Huh maybe I'll try a Kamui soft this time...

If it mushrooms I'm coming after you though.

LOL... i have nothing to worry about then. :D

Make sure you get a Kamui Black... there is a difference between Kamui and Kamui Blacks.

Alright one more and don't shoot the noob- What the hell is so good about Kamui chalk?

I use Masters cause it doesnt flake and, um, chalks my stick. What is the difference between Masters and Kamui?

Is this one of those deals where anything with the Kamui name attached to it is touted as god's gift to pool players and in the end it doesnt really do anything special?

Never again

I lost another game last night due to a miss cue with my Kamui black med.
this tip sucks. far to many miscues. I even went out and bought there scuffer for $40. what a waste. This tip is harder than a plain old La Pro.

Im cutting this thing off today.

I'm with you. I've played with the Moori med for quite a while and really liked it. Out of curiousity I tried the Kamui but didn't like it. I also switched to the Moori soft and like it even better than the Moori med. You would expect a soft tip to mushroom, but it never did. It never glazed or hardened. You should give the Moori soft a spin - for me, it's the only way to fly.

Kamui Super Soft

I play with an OB2 shaft and a Kamui Super Soft and I leave it as long as possible. I love the way it plays and it puts a nice spin on the CB so I can throw a lot of balls in the pocket.

Why Kamui? I like them they are great tips (for me). As far as the chalk I can’t see myself ever buying a $30 cube of chalk; I would have to try it 1st and be sold on it. Some things are worth the $ in the high end some are not, from my experience I can not imagine that chalk would be one of those things. I am not poo-pooing it because I haven’t tried it. BUT $30 sounds like pretentious pricing for pricings sake and that’s not how I spend my money. I am not one to be proud to say “my ___ costs $$$$$$$$$$+++” I am the exact opposite; I am proud to say “I paid $- for my ____”

moori m has been my favorite for years, the 1st gen ones were awesome. i had the same experience as you when i tried to switch to kamui. i tried kamui m and s, both did not suit me. im going to try kamui black though, i heard good things about it.

So alright what I'm seeing is that there is a difference between the Kamui and Kamui Black. Can anyone tell me what that difference is and if they have used both?

If you are a medium Moori fan try a soft Kamui Original (Tan). With the black, you will not like how the tip glazes over.... I've been using a tan for a few months now and its the closest thing I've found to the old Mooris of 7+ year ago.

Kamui chalk

I use and love the kamui chalk, I chalk tip, shoot three or four times with it. No worries about miscues at all. Plus it last a while as well, I personally think its well worth the money, I also use the kamui black super soft tip as well, it pays for itself, plus I'm hard on tip, only have had to trim it once for the shrooming. Try them you will like it. James

Got two of the new moori soft tips put on, they are pretty bad. Replaced one with Kamui Soft, one of the best tips I used. Why switch you asked, because the Moori tips were horrible, did not hold shape, mushroomed, the hit was nothing like the Moori I used years ago. And the Kamui had lots of great reviews, and when I tried it, I have to agree. Great tip.

I have used both and I think it's a preference issue, they hit differently the blacks have a “stiffer hit” / “harder feel”. So if you think about the difference between a metal joint and a wood joint that is about the same “kind” of difference but it is bigger with the different tips. Also the blacks do last longer, are more “mushroom resistant” so they need less care & attention and cost about 4-5 bucks more per tip.

I am in need of a new tip and I am trying to decide between the Onyx and Kamui Soft. I have heard great things about both.

Just purchased a Kamui Black Soft from Pooldawg. Here's to hoping its not a mistake lol.

i have 2 friends who put on Kamui mediums as this is what the cue repair person advised. neitgher of them are very happy with the decision.
