Why No ABP/Dragon Tournaments?

I have heard many pros (Johnny A, SVB, Morris, Moore, and many more pros) say that pro tournaments should be just pros. When I heard them all say that I thought, "What are you thinking". If the ABP wants to play in tournaments like that why don't fellow ABP member CW put a few on? Because they're full of BS. The last thing 90% of them want is to have two top pros as their first 2 draws. They need that dead money from non-pros. I would like to see a few 16 or 32 pro players only tour or tournaments. I don't think most pros would like it. Johnnyt

There are pros and cons of doing it each way.

I think one of the neat things about pool tournaments is that good amateurs get to play against world-class pros, even if all they're doing is adding to the prize money. How many amateur golfers get to match up with Tiger Woods?

After a match the spectators can get autographs, have their picture taken with the pros, etc.

That's why I like to watch the Filipino money matches where Efren or Dennis is playing an up-and-coming kid on an outdoor table with roosters crowing. The up-and-comers get to test their game against top pros.

Yes, it's a sign that pool isn't very popular...but that has some benefits too.

If you haven't figured it out yet, the ABP only speaks up about the U.S. Open 9ball... It was a tool to get Barry to pay up. No more, no less. I hadn't heard a peep out of the ABP since last year, until news about the US open, then they have a couple "press releases..." and now QUIET AGAIN. NO comment on BB, NO comment on the simi-pro American Rotation system, NO comment on ANYTHING, except the Open...

Johnnyt,

Me thinks reading between the line says all pro is everyone who "Pays" ABP Pro membership... Just a little twist to increase their membership. Or who knows, I could be just wrong. I have hard time reading English as it is anyway :grin-square:

The ABP doesn't put on any tournaments because it would be too embarrassing to have a pro tournament with only a $100 added. (if they could even come up with that right now with all of them chipping in)

Takes a lot of money to put on a tournament correctly, and they don't have it and don't really know how to get it. They aren't in the business of "owning", just in the business of telling everyone else what to do for them.

Trust me when I say, there are only a few if any that "pay" for membership. I've talked with several "members" of the ABP, and they didn't even know they were on the list. The first year they formed, I asked SVB about boycotting the Open, and he knew nothing of it, and said I'll be there regardless.

The ABP is just a bad joke to bully a few promoters into what they want. nothing more or less.

Very good point !

When they were new and had some steam they shot some of it at Zuglan !

They wanted the Turning Stone events seeded !

Zuglan said no, end of story.

Pretty sure it was ABP members, correct me if I am wrong.
