Why not Denver?

Well it seems like my thread has gone on and left me lol. I don't know most of the names that are being thrown out. I still think it could work but I am a little out of touch on the Denver scene. I hope things are good and happy Easter. Jim.
I agree. Also of note is the bunch of great players that came out of Colorado Springs years ago. It was a virtual hotbed of hometown champs that would give any roadplayer a tough time.

Growing up in Denver in the 60's, we had a lot of "high runs".

I ran into that bunch about 10 years ago or so. My god these guys could play. I went to the Antique billiard museum for a pro qualifier and was quickly put in my place. There were a couple of brothers that shot lights out, They were short in stature and tall in game.
So I guess I am curious as to why others think it big time tournaments rarely happen in my neck of the woods?

It sounds like we just need to get you down from the mountain a little more often.
SVB frequents Ft Collins & Denver pretty often. Most recently in the past year or two, we've had Tommy Tokoph, John Morra, Jarred Spence, Shane McMinn, and others passing through. Brandon Shuff won the last $4K added Kellerman Memorial event (which was probably the biggest annual event that we get out here), depending on how you define "pro"
Locally, you can always find pro caliber play from Mark Haddad and Tony Piazza. Not to mention the three WPBA ladies in town, Melissa Little, Nicole Keeney, and Laura Smith.
But, like CB mentioned, a big tourney = a big sponsor
I can any player you want to see to come to town but it wouldn't even be worth their expenses without a big enough purse. Any ideas? Like the movie says, "If you build it, they will come..."

I am still not over missing the chance to play you a few games of Einstein Nine a few weeks back
. So one of these days I might surprise you and just show up when you are at Table Steaks. I don't know if you are a one pocket player or not but the original name of my game was one pocket 9 and its a hoot. Thats a impressive list on players you quoted. I know a lot of players pass through Denver on their way across the country. I guess I will have to start reading http://www.cuetimes.com/ so I can keep up on the events down there.

Good points all...after all, Sarasota Wyoming, population 1500 or so, just attracted some big names to a bar table championship. All there seemed to be having a good time. Especially Rodney Morris, who placed first.

true enough, at one time years ago Colo Spgs hosted some of the best players in the country. i remember at one point, Grady,Jr Harris, Bill Meachem,Dick Henry,Chrlie Shutman,Scott Smith,mark Estes, and not tomention some grat True Road Players at once point such as Greg Stevens and many more.
To my understanding Bill Meachem is still there and a brain Pooll in Colorado should be tapping. The man has been around this game on several levels for more than 40 years and could help you guys get it going again as it once was!
What ever happened with the CBA? At one point that was as well run as any tour or organazation as I have ever seen. It was ahdicapped and absolutely brutal on the better players, but also had a membership from Colorado of about 1200 members There was something to do each night of the week en the Denver area and had a great folowing for many years??
Meachem is Island Drive on this forum and still comes into Antiques on occasion. I regret that I was not around (at least in age) to see the hayday that you speak of below, but am well aware of the talent of those individuals. I've played Meachem a few times and believe that he is trying to play more after extended absence from the game. Scott Smith also comes in occasionally but does not seem to play anybody.
There are at least 6 players down in Colorado Springs that can hold their own against very good players. Unfortunately, I feel they hold themselves back by not playing and matching up more. We all lack the seasoning that it takes to get to the next level IMO. Colorado is in a sense one large island. I've often though of moving back east or back to LA to get a fresh perspective.

its more remote than Vegas, Vegas is 4 hours from anything. Other than the infrastructure we have here there is little for miles and miles of desert, kinda like Hawaii is with water. It is like living on a island.
The other problem with Denver is the Airport is a zillion miles from anywhere and is there a suitable venue for a pool tourny with affordiable accomidations near by????
The reason Louisville works is there are alot of local players which is important, there are several venues for a tournment and affordiable lodging.
I think the absloutely best place to have a tournement above everywhere is Alanta. It has everything a promoter needs and a great airport, and a zillion players from Flordia, Calorina's etc.
Going into pool starved areas hoping to have success is second choice of going into a thriving area and knowing you will do good. Thats why I dont like So Cal, What Jay did in the earily 90's might not be repetable now days. I could be wrong.

SVB was at Rack em a few months ago very cool guy.He comes through a few times a year.It doesnt get much better than that to see his super stroke at your local room.There is a very strong pool scene hear in Denver and I would love to see a Pro Event here.There are some serious players here and I think it could generate a lot of interest.
