Why not to whack your cue on the table!

I sold this one of a kind Judd Fuller to a close friend for 1,500.00. Judd told me it would cost around 2,500.00 to make another one. My friend was playing for a 1.00 per game and was 24.00 up when his missed a shot and whacked the tip (11.75 MM) of his cue on the table. The result really bothered me. Yes his still owes me some money on this cue!

Such a waste of a beautiful excellent playing cue. Remember no matter what don't abuse your cues!!!!

wow!!! it is sad to see this happen to a beautiful cue, i bet it played lights out...and chance of getting it repaired?

Wow, that was a serious whack. The points are flat bottom inlays? They don't look spliced. If it was spliced, I think it would have broken just underneath the nose where the pin ends if it breaks at all.

I believe they are in fact spliced points and the major break occurred where the forearm pin ended. The forearm pin is only about 3/4" long (a very short pin). What is also amazing is how the break went right thru the ivory diamond.

Looks like he broke over his knee.

It broke at the ring and that is where the handle is attached to the forearm. Rember Bo Jackson snapping a bat over his knee when he whiffed out? I bet it was kind of like that.
Nick :)

Wow. Yeah, they look sharp and would have guessed they were spliced, but I guess I would have expected to see the points in the inside. Must be just the lighting in the pic. Like I said in the first post...looks like a serious blow to me.

The epoxy holding the diamond in is stronger than the diamond. It looks freakish, but the break was just in line with the diamond, so the ivory sure wasn't going to hold it together

WOW ! Shame that he broke such a nice cue.

Sounds like he needs to start using house cues.

That's just sickening. I used to be real bad about breaking cues. Finally I got over it - mostly....... I even won a few tournaments with my shaft taped up from breaking it the night before.

To see it happen to such a nice cue as a Judd is heartbreaking.

I hope you do get paid Bob.

Good Luck in getting the rest of your money. Hope he's not the "there was something wrong with this cue when you sold it to me, and I'm not giving you anymore money" kind of person.

how hard did he wack it? unless he whaled on it i think it should have held up better than that!

It takes less than you think... I always cringe when I see players walking around with an assembled cue, butt up, in their case. It takes one wrong move and the cue cracks at the joint. I saw another guy pretending to "cast" his cue like a fishing rod. OH snap!

He only owes me a couple hundred on the cue and are friendship is worth alot more than that. I will be paid for the balance. I still feel sick when I hold this broken cue in my hands. I have to get it back to him so I won't look at it any longer. Its just a waste for such a beautiful cue that played really good.

My expirence has been people who break a cue like this generally wack their cue on something on a regular basis. My friends dad who I used to play in a league with would look for an empty barstool nearly everytime he missed an easier shot and WACK. Well this went on for as long as we played there (aprox 3 years) It started real gentle and got harder over time untill "that night". He missed, walks 2 tables away to reach an empty barstool to hit and a funny sound happened. Wack, twank, bang. I looked over just in time to see the forarm split down the middle and the shaft and part of the joint go bouncing on the floor.
Needless to say he was embarresed but I did see him hit his new cue just a week later. Oh well
