stop being so difficult...one of us will pick you up at BWI.

Now that you offered ...... Thanks for the answers. As my age increases, my thinking about the game has changed dramatically. Remember years when I played in fifteen or sixteen Joss events per year. Sometimes driving from Rochester to near the Maine border (Country Club USA), Boston (Quincy Billiards), New Bedford (Mike X's room), Providence, Philadelphia and everywhere in between. Travelled even further for some of Joe Kerr's events. Guess I'm just getting old and lazy! Again, thanks for the answer.

Local pool tourneys can not be compared to a local car dealership. And I like 90% of the working class citizen who has a passion for pool just wants to compete from time to time. So why should I speak with my wallet? I won't miss the $40 dollar entry fee and I know I'm pretty much dead money. I tolerate all this crap only because it's entertainment for me and I like to play. I'm not trying to change the world..

Part of what you say is true, only because some room owners and TDs do care about pool and the players and don't try to squeeze every nickel and dime from them to cover their bills, or make a profit, which is a joke when you consider how little money there is in pool in the first place.

Like everything else, if players truly want to protest the best way to do this is to speak with their wallets!

People would adjust their pricing structures really quickly if no one shows up for events, then they would continue to depend on league pool and regular patronage, which is not always lucrative as we have seen.

Can you imagine what car dealers would do if no one bought a new car for six months nationwide? The only real "power" we have is consumer-based. We don't like so we don't buy.

Like you said though, most players don't care and just want to play, and that is precisely what some room owners and TDs count on.

Shame on them.

Ray,

It only matters if you get in the money.

You shouldn't worry about this....

:groucho:

How motivated would you be to go to work if you knew there would be taxes taken out of your check but they didn't say how much until time to cut the checks?

Baltimore is nealy seven hours from Rochester. Generally, most people consider the Northeast to be Pennsylvania North and East. Maryland and Virginia (even West Virginia) are considered to be Mid-Atlantic. Just saying.

Thanks for the list of Tours though. Some are one day events. For me they would be two or three days as I would have to arrive the night before and be prepared to stay overnight after the event concludes and drive home the following day. Expenses are a consideration. So is my age (68). The Joss Northeast is about the only reasonable alternative. Tony Robles' Preditor events are also over seven hours away. Minimum.

Don't mean to be argumentative. You wouldn't believe the number of people who ask me if I know so and so from the Bronx. Or someone from North Jersey. In all honesty, I play for the fun of it. Don't expect to win. If I do, it's a bonus. Just look at my signature!

Forgot, Finley's is just over six hours.
Thanks for the clarification between Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, that was helpful...:) And I mean that seriously.

I did not realize you live in Rochester, which is 4 hours away from everything...:)

In that case, you can scratch all of the tours I mentioned, except maybe for Mezz.

If I lived that far away I would not drive the distance to play in these events, not worth it in the least.

And personally...given my own speed I would not drive more than 3 hrs. to play anywhere, unless it was SBE where I have a legitimate chance of beating a few people.

68 huh? So what do you want to be when you grow up?

Why not a sliding scale entry fee based on skill level?

It sucks being dead money.

I'd play in the US Open if I could do it for $15 entry...

Haven't decided what to be yet. Someone suggested I read the book "Peter Pan" :p.

I've driven the five hours to SBE for years. I've been very, very fortunate. Most of my opponents fainted and allowed me to win some matches. Already have reservations for April. Hope to meet you. I've met lots of great AZ'ers over the years. SBE is the best!!!!

Amen, especially for the detractors in this thread who couldn't get in the money anyways...

Play to win but at least play

If you know the payout and the entry fee you know all you need to know.

Very few events list payouts on the advertisement.

Let's say the event says the entry is 100 and includes all fees.

If the fees aren't disclosed, they could be altered at any time for any reason and it would still be as advertised.

Might end up being 20 a man or 10 a man. Who knows.

Oh, your talking about $100 tour-na-mints.

I was thinking about $40 tour-na-mints.

Nevermind

Bigtruck,

You did not give a voting option... Just stated "no disclosure, no play" two different ways

Trying to make a point?

It was Poll Fail Joel
You guys are too sharp for me. Hehe.

Ok. poll "fail" :D

Now that we had our fun. :embarrassed2:

I think it's ok for there to be fees, but I think they should be disclosed. I'll play either way myself, since I have little chance of cashing, but if they're not listed couldn't they be changed after the fact?

Can and have, I played in a 10.00 tournament about 5 different times one year.
They had 20 players 1 time, I came in 4th, they paid 3 places. Two weeks later, 20 players, I won, they paid 5 places.
I don't know what happened and don't really care but if people will be scammers for cheap money what will they do for big money.
Oh yeah , I forgot.
Don't pay anyone.
