Why the red dots on 3 cushion balls?

Those of us who play 3-cushion know that there are 6 red dots on both the yellow and white balls. (Aramith Pro Cup). I would like to know why those red dots are there? Is it mainly for visual or do the balls roll differently from a normal set of carom ball without the dots (Aramith Deluxe for example). I can't seem to find the answer for my question anywhere on the web...THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

The spots were added about 1998 for UMB and the BWA WorldCup events so that the audience (and TV) could see the spin on the balls. For a while the balls were available only for those events.

It's so you can see the spin on the ball based on the english used when you hit the balls.
i was told this by a aramith rep at a BCA show when they first came out
