Why was Mark Griffin/CSI Crucified and Hopkins/SBE Get A Free Pass?

I understand that the players get paid at the SBE. Why do players keep going to the Open year after year and then complain not getting paid.
Hopkins runs a great show. I have gone to the SBE for the last 12 years. I have a great time.
I do not compete, but I enjoy watching the pros and amatures as well as the action play.

Well the flip side of the coin is I have never seen a thread or heard about players not getting paid, getting a post dated check, or getting the runaround when it comes time to collect from the events that CSI or Allen put on.

I think it was the famous poker player Amarillo Slim who said, when asked about playing in a poker game that was know to be crooked "well it's the only game in town"

For years in King of Prussia, the main men's event and the women's main event almost ALWAYS had a cover charge for spectators as far as I can remember.

For the past 2 years in Edison, Nj, the 2 events were only free to watch because I believe there was no way to 'isolate' the pro arena.

Now thats it's back in Oaks, Pa, there will more than likely be a cover charge to 'watch the pros'.

The pros were pretty isolated last year and it was free.

Sorry sir you are wrong see below;

"What's even better than getting an up close view of the pros as they play? How about not paying any additional money to do so! That's right - you will not need a separate ticket or pass to watch the pro events. If you are a player in one of the amateur events, then your player badge will work as your pass all weekend (don't lose your badges!)."

Again the draw for watching the pros is not great. When they charged $10 bucks to watch 2 sets of the event years ago you might get 40 spectators.

And what if you don't have a badge????

And what if you don't have a badge????

Dennis,

Not a chance! One thing SBE does very well is check EVERYONE for badges at the entry doors. God forbid you lose yours. I enter three main events with $25 per event deducted for the registration and other fees. Was told point blank by Allen "if I lose my badge, they will NOT replace it free", even though I paid for three of them.

And what if you don't have a badge????

If you're not playing in any of the tournaments, you pay to get into the expo. If you choose to watch the pros, that's included but it doesn't cost extra. A few years ago, even with a badge you still had to pay extra to watch.

Ive been doing the EXPO a long time (20 years).

And whenever they had a pro event, it was never financially structured like this.

They always collected gate money.

This right here is a NEW benefit.

And it only applies to those that have participated in an event there already.

If you dont particpate in any of the events, I believe you still have to pay.

If not, the benefits go to the spectator.

Hope you get a good seat!!
