Interesting. My thread which broke no forum rules was deleted...

WHY?

It was simply an add for another forum.

By the way, trying to turn it into a forum war is a bad idea.

Childish and destructive.

Matt,

Please clear out some space in your private mail box. Tried to send you a PM and it wouldn't let me.

I'd say you deleting the thread probably has more of impact of being destructive imho.

Hopefully I'm wrong as I like this place.

Sometimes it seems like the rules around here are interpreted in whichever way that is needed to justify whatever is being done at the time.

Doesn’t mean the same rule will be interpreted the same way next time, or with another poster.

(Helpful hint, “the man” gets a little feisty when you ask crazy questions like “WHY”)

Here's a quote from the forum rules. I don't see many different ways of interpreting those. With 8000 members the rules only have 2200 views, maybe that's the problem.

The owners of AzBilliards Forums reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason.
I have read, and agree to abide by the AzBilliards Forums rules.

I don't understand why people consider it unreasonable to delete a thread in a forum that advertises another forum. C'mon people, the forum is still a business.

It's clearly within the rules to remove, delete, etc.,

I'm curious as to what forum was mentioned.

Do you think if he were to put the forum address in his signature for all his posts that it would be edited out everywhere? Lots of folks put links out like that. I can think of quite a few who do that...

I moderate another forum, and we ban people permanently for advertising other forums/servers. Usually if a thread is deleted a PM with a short explanation to the thread-starter is a good follow-up to avoid another thread asking why it was deleted :p

I thought Matt was just offering informative information.

Mr. Wilson has not shown any interest in sharing information between the major internet pool forums. A number of posts, including links to other forums, have been deleted. Although, in the past, Mike H. has posted on other forums, many times, and referred people to this forum. Obviously, the reverse is not allowed.

Most of us, at least, stop in on other forums and I see no problem with sharing information from forum to forum. IMHO, the forums were established to share information.

You can share it without stepping on feet.

Very interesting.

Last month a thread was started (it's still available http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=47850&highlight=onepocket.org ) by a blogger who titled her thread " AZ Billiards is not the best billiards forum..." where she lists a bunch of other forums and asks for AZ members opinions on which forum is the best, and offers a $50 Amazon coupon to the member who makes a compelling argument for ranking the forums in a particular manner...

IMHO, AZ is far and away the best forum, no doubt about it. I only check one other forum from time to time. Why go elsewhere when you've got the best right here? I understand that onepocket.org is very good for discussing one pocket issues, but it's quite slow over there. Much better right here, IMHO.

All that being said, the editors here, Mr. Wilson in particular, does a pretty good job of moderating some cantankerous folks who get out of line from time to time. My hat's off to him.

Matt-

You may be handed any one of a number of different reasons in an attempt to justify why this was done, but the real bottom line is that things are getting out of hand around here.

Without a doubt he does a fantastic job. And also, my comment about banning is when people outright advertise their forum on ours. If someone starts a poll like you mentioned it would probably just get deleted... but ours is definitely run much more nazi-like than this place :D

Here is the thing.

I was simply offering another billiard-related forum to our members.

I've been a member of AZ for years now. I have a lot of friends on here and have no plans/interest in leaving. I love the AZ website/forum. BUT, for those of us that are friends with JIMBO - I was simply offering up the information that he has his own forum on the Insidepool...that is it. It is already getting a little busy (which is nothing compared to the activity over here, but still a lot of fun and will probably get better). I'm sure there is room for both forums on this vast world wide web, and since (from what I've seen) the only section over there worth visiting is JIMBO's....visiting that will not detract from AZ one iota.

I have never gotten involved with flame wars on here, and I generally get along with everyone. BUT, you do reserve the right to delete whatever you want, I just thought it looked slightly petty to delete it so quickly and wanted to know why. Am I not entitled to ask? I've never questioned Mr. Wilson's judgement calls at all until this time, and it was done so respectfully. I didn't appreciate Mr. Wilson jumping to conclusions and calling it childish and destructive, but we're all human. Perhaps now he will see where I am coming from.

Seems like the attitude round here is that it's my way or tha highway. U can take it or go somewhere else :(

Matt,

Someone pointed out that a great many members have what could only be considered advertizing in there signitures(that area below the content area). I look at it like a business owner and if a customer came in with logo's on his shirt and sat down and ordered from my menu/product I would welcome his business. Now if that same person came in with a sandwich board and walked around my business I would show him/her the door.

Bottom line is someone has to make the judgement calls and we customers have to deal with it. Your options are: love it or leave it!

Dave (Mr. Wilson),

You should really think about contacting (email and PM) people when ever something needs to be moderated and giving them the reason. This makes it look less like censorship and prevents threads like this. Plus it allows you and the "offender" to discuss things like this in private. Just some friendly advice.

Matt ....

Your intent may have been innocent, but when viewed by someone else, it very well could have been interpreted as trying to continue a flame war, either between forums, or just on here.
