Why Watch Accustats Without Grady?

It's a shame he's not with them anymore. Grady is the best commentator out there. This is no exaggeration, I always learn at least one important shot when Grady does the commentating. Billy is a good commentator too, but he can get a little redundant sometimes. Grady adds good spirited humor and sometimes tells interesting stories.

Another thing I would like to add, is I got the chance to watch "Advanced Principles of Pool" done by Grady. It's a fairly old instructional tape, but the stuff you learn is just incredible. Grady demonstrates each shot and explains it in detail. The quality is not great (because it's old), but that doesn't matter because you can see the shots just fine and Grady explains everything in great detail so you understand it perfectly. I think it's the best instructional tape ever made. I haven't watched his ones on kicks yet, but I will soon. Thanks again Grady.

I agree. Grady's tapes always have more info in them than his contemporaries put out. More bang for the buck. Also as a commentator he seems to find a gem in each given moment of a match. It will be hard for anyone to match the color he adds...

I can't think of a single Accu-stats tape that is a must-watch because of the commentary. Grady, who is knowledgeable andf articulate, does a solid job of commentating, as do several others, but only the pool itself could ever make an Accu-stats match a must watch.

Well, I hate to agree.....

I think Grady is the best, especially on one-pocket.

I wish Grady and the accustats guys could get things worked out and get Grady back in the booth.

Frankly, I am not interested without him.

I like Grady and Billy. They act like they are married and a little pissed off at each other.

Love it,

Ken

Kind reminds me of the old Monday Night Football shows, when Howard Cosell and Don Meredith used to verbally joust with each other....I wasn't aware that Grady had left Accu-Stats.....Was there some kind of falling out?

I agree with that.

Yes, it is an exageration. IMO, Bill Incardona is a better commentator than Grady (sorry Grady, gotta say what I think). Incardona's on camera personality could probably use a little work, but that's another story. They each brought something different to the commentary, both brought added value. It is hard to pick one as better than the other, but if forced to choose I go with BI.

Grady does have some good stories, but story telling wise Danny Diliberto has them both beat 6 ways to Sunday.

I find Grady's instructional tapes are average and that is all. They certainly demonstrates Grady's pool playing abilities, but I found nothing special about their instructional value. In fairness, I haven't seen all his tapes so I the others may be great. I found the first couple I got disappointing and didn't get any others. Also in fairness, if I went back and viewed them again, now that I'm a somewhat better player, maybe I'd appreciate them a little more.
Thanks again Grady.
I have no problem agreeing with this sentiment. Although I don't share your enthusiasm that Grady is the greatest thing since sliced bread, I agree he has added a lot to all the aspects of pool you've mentioned. He deserves "thanks". I also thank you Grady.

I believe that this happened for some unknown reason when Billiard Club Network first came to US Open to do live show of the final's and they ended up with Billy and Jim Wytch, Grady had played in US Open and stayed around after being eliminated to do commentary I thought but they made a bad choice with Jim Wytch I think. Maybe Grady would care to tell his side of the story,I also miss his humor and expert shot selections. Leonard

Thanks, everybody

Thanks for the nice comments and support. I really appreciate them.
I quit working for Accu-stats because they picked Wych and Cardone over me for a TV tournament, after I went to the event expecting to to have that job. I even packed extra suits in case I needed them. Anyway, I worked for and with them for 13 years and I never got to do TV or get the better paying jobs.
These things being said, I would still consider going back if a. I got a raise and b. I didn't have to work with Wych.
I don't know what else to say.

Your damn right you haven't seen them all and you should in all fairness view them again.:p ;)

"Grady does have some good stories, but story telling wise Danny Diliberto has them both beat 6 ways to Sunday"

Sorry Im to the point if Danny Diliberto is in the booth I have to turn the volume down. Every tape we have to hear where the Cosmo came from plus he misses almost every call on the table. We played a drinking game while watching the Open online. Every time he missed the call on the table we had to take a drink......enough said.

I will put my vote in for Grady and Danny as my two favorite commentators.

At either last year's DCC or US Open, can't remember which, Buddy Hall joined Danny for the commentary for a match broadcast online. He was did a great job and was very entertaining.

Cuetechasauras and everyone:

If you're serious about kicking, and you think it's an important factor in "getting the money" --- Grady's instructional tape on kicking is flat-out the best one on planet earth.

After the first time I saw the video, I quite frankly couldn't stop giggling - because the knowledge contained therein was so unbelieveable, it's forever changed the way I see the table. After years of watching the SAME OLD crap in instructional videos... FINALLY something for the advanced player that is guaranteed to improve your game.

It probably took me a solid month to get through the entire video (while practicing one system at a time). Now, I feel I can hit any ball, anywhere, while being hooked on almost any part of the table.

Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself.

Agreed, well worth the money and again more bang for the buck than others who have attempted to cover the same subject...

I'd say your right, with the one exception of the Earl Strickland vs. Johnny Ervolino 14.1 match. Even if it wasn't a good match the banter between Billy Incardona, Danny Dilliberto, C.J. Wiley and Cicero Murphy was worth the price of admission.

Other than that I watch pool for pool, not commentary. Often times I would prefer no commentary and listen to the clicking of the balls and the occasional banter of the players.

Actually that is the one issue with accu-stats productions. I wish the playing area was amplified better.

My collection of Accu-Stats tapes consists mostly of nine ball and straight pool. My favorite commentators are Grady Matthews, Buddy Hall, Nick Varner, Jim Rempe, and Danny DiLiberto. I like Billy as well, but it would be better if he didn't feel the need to say "but he has to stay focused" every single rack.

I don't care for Jim Wytch. He injects this fake enthusiasm into the proceedings, kind of like a bad Chris Berman impression. He also has a tendency to abuse certain catch phrases, which makes him a bad pairing with Billy.

One of the things that I used to like about Accu-Stats commentary was how informal it was. Players would drop in the booth between matches and participate, leading to some pretty hilarious discussions. I guess when they did that first PPV of the U.S. Open things needed to get more professional, but for me it lost some of it's charm.

My favorites on Accu-stats are Grady and Danny D. and I don't care for Bill Incardona and Jim Wych. They don't give the good pool tips that Grady and Danny do and they just aren't as entertaining to me. I hope Pat and Grady get back together one day. I haven't bought any new Accu-stats matches since Grady left.

It can't be only the pool itself. I can't stand Allen Hopkins commentating, and don't care much for Jerry Forsythe. Jim Wych is pretty annoying too. This reminds me of the Efren Reyes/Neils Feijen match of the Tokyo 9ball Championship Finals. Great match, race to 15, but I could not watch the entire damned thing because Allen Hopkins commentary was so stupid, and with no volume, I couldn't stand it. If it had some great commentary, it might have been a great selling match.

so what everyone seems to be saying is that watching accu stats without grady is like watching accu stats with allen hopkins...
