WI players

I have to agree with some of the listed in order.
I have watched LIL' Jon Fields destroy Larry and Jeff in the same tournament more than once. I thought Larry was going to explode as Jon locked him down and ran out when Larry missed to kill him 9-2 twice. Jeff Carter is the Bizarro world for Jon Fields, they were both raised to be world champs. The only problem Jon had is that he was in Green Bay and Appleton and never got challenged by anyone except at Masters stops and the Chalk Talk. If he could have gotten out to FL (I would still love to take him here and steak his ass on some unsuspecting folk), there is no telling what he might have became. Munson was great player, but now he is probably half blind. Randy Lamar and Craig Powers are or were very strong! Then there was this kid that had two Cuetecs, and he went by the name of LIL' RAT, WHO IS THAT? The kid was pretty strong. But how did Duncan Kaufmann get his name in the hat? Has he really gotten that good? Didn't Lee Heuwagen play out of Milwaukee area? That guy was a sleeper.
JON me.

Duncan is very well respected in the Madison area ( can't speak for all of wisconsin since I haven't been around that much). Whenever he played the handicapped tournament at cuenique he had to give up outrageous spots. When I was there people always mentioned his name at the same time as Randy and Jeff.

Frank Stellman, aka Sailor, from Racine was known to have made a ball or two back in the day.

Is Beloit in WI? Credibility check in process.

It's in Wisconsin, but very close to the Illinois border. Probably why there is confusion about it.:)

Also, where is Nevel now.

When I was in Greenville, SC a couple of weeks ago, someone told me Larry was living in that area again. Not confirmed, though.

He's from western (Rapid City) South Dakota (where Shane VB also grew up). Lee's been in Minneapolis for several years now.

and for the Wisconsin guy who was asking about Beloit, I will point out Minneapolis is not in Wisconsin ;-)

Speakin of Sailor, what ever happened to Mark Foss? He played pretty sporty.

If you want to know about the best players in Wisconsin you have to factor in a few things. Table size, game, day of the week and so on. It really can vary alot around here.

Now that Larry Nevel moved back to South Carolina I would have to give top all-around honors to Jeff Carter. Following him are John Fields and Dave Coles Jr in a toss up based on table and game...but I give the edge to John Fields overall. After that, Randy Lamar, Duncan Kuffmann, Tim Ruenger, and Craig Powers are all close together. There are also alot of players that are capable of playing great and beating anyone on any given day, but sadly they either quit playing or play very very seldom.

Wisconsin players...

It's about time someone brought up the fact that there are some awesome players from Wisconsin. Seeing some of the names that have been mentioned has brought back a lot of memories, man I MUST be getting old! Willie Munson used to be the head all the road players were out to get. George Brunt was another. Bill Schmidt(Wild Bill, can't say if it was the hair or the partying) was someone tough to beat. Kevin Stanelle was another one. I have been away for too many year to know if any of them besides Wllie are still playing. And to those who didn't know, Craig Powers IS that good. Heard he took a straight job after getting married. Saw his name listed in one of the national tournament lists not too long ago. I know I would not play him even, but I don't really play any more.

I can confirm...

That Minneapolis is not in Wisconsin.

Brings back some old memories hearing those names. Lots of good players from Wisconsin thats for sure. While I have been out of the pool scene for a few years now, it seems that things have pretty much died off and the real pool rooms are dead and gone. I assume the Carom Room and Classic Billiards may be about all that are left of the real pool rooms. I don't expect Wisconsin is going to produce a lot of new champions over the next generation or two.

How did Geno do in that tourney? Also, it is very good to see this post revisited. Any of you WI players going to WAMO on St Patty's weekend. If So look me up for I will be there. Always lookong for a game. Take care and shoot straight.

I thought he just this last year bought a room in Beloit! Boy, if this is true that man can't put down roots anywhere!

Rumors, just rumors. He purchased a Diamond Pro table, and that sat at the Carom Room for a couple months or so, but that's about it...

Hey Oshkosh man, you playing at the MAGNET, or is it still there? That place is bad for your health, they have a slogan "the liver is bad and must be punished", I did my share of that when I went through there thas for sure.
Does anyone know if Jon Fields is playing regularly? I left WI shortly after he had his daughter and he had all but quit playing for a while then. If there was ever a game that was never brought to its potential it is his. What about Ernie (EZ money), is he still stakeing for JON?

I had been going to the Magnet for a little while after the pool room (BoDudley's) closed down in December, but I won't go there anymore. The place is horrible. It's not even a pool hall, it's a bar with a few shitting tables. lol. BoDudley's is the place that I learned to play and was a great room full of Diamond Smart Tables, but sadly do to a lot of issues it had to close. It's still sitting there in tact if anyone is interested in buying it.

I'm really good friends with John actually. He's playing when he can. He's got another kid on the way and is very excited about it. His game is at a level where even if he doesn't play for a couple months he's still very hard to beat. He'll be going to WAMO next weekend to win it for the 3rd or 4th straight year. lol.

As for Ernie, he quit playing for a while after getting kicked out of most places in the city but he's getting back into it now. He'll stake anyone that needs a stake...if it's the right game and worth it for him of course.

Just curious....does anybody in Wisc. play any one pocket at all, other than the champions - L. Nevel and J. Carter ? Thanks, Ghost

Willie does...

From what I heard, Willie Munson plays one pocket, among all the other games he plays.

If any Southern WI / Northern Ill people want some action. Head to Elkhorn, Wi and look for Breakers Family Billiards. They will play anyone in just about any game....If you know what I mean.
