Folks:

I will be in the Houston TX area from Sunday, 10 March through-and-until Friday, 15 March (pretty much all of next week) on a business trip.

With the recently-announced TSA relaxed restrictions for onboard items (they allow pool cues onboard the plane now), I'm thinking about bringing my cues with me.

Couple questions:

1. Are there any good poolhalls in the area? (If it helps, I will be at the Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Group Customer Experience Center on 11445 Compaq Center Drive West in Houston.) Anyone know if there's a decent hall nearby?

2. Any AZB'ers in that area interested in meeting up?

Looking forward,
-Sean

I used to play BCA leagues out of this place about ten years ago. I used to drive by your workplace to get there. Here's their website: http://www.clicks.com/houston/houston.htm

There used to be regulars during the day that would play cheap on the 9' tables. Several older men. Don't go north. There ain't nothing in Tomball.

There's also a closer Slick's? closer on Jones Road.

If you're willing to travel a bit, Houston is extremely large and spread out. I live on the other side of Houston, about 50 miles from your work. Lots of pool halls everywhere.

Big Tyme Billiards

If it was me I would drive to Big Tyme Billiards, that place cant be beat. The only place that comes close as far as quality and distance from where you are going to be staying is Bogies. I hope you have a rental car, Big Tyme is about 12 miles away.

In order...
1) Big Tyme - north of downtown Houston about 20 minutes, allows smoking; 5 nice 9-footers, lots of oversized 8s and some 7-foot diamonds; Billy Sharp owns it and plays 1-pocket real well; Ernest Bayaua hangs out there and will likely match up with you

2) Bogies - north of downtown about 20 minutes, allows smoking; 5 nice 9-footers, 6x12 snooker, lots of oversized 8s; some decent players in there, most will play only if they have the nuts

3) Clicks Billiards - west/northwest about 10 minutes, no smoking; 3 9-footers, rest are oversized 8s; cheap action but can be hard to find too

4) Legends - south of houston off i-45 about 25 minutes, allows smoking; 3 9-footers, rest are oversized 8s, there's also a backroom they open up for tournaments that has 5-7 oversized 8s in it; should be action most nights

5) Slicks Willies Dairy Ashford - west of town about 25 minutes; Tuesday night is BCA league and arguably one of the best leagues in the country; lots of good players, should be able to get a game once league is done

6) Slick Willies Montrose/Westheimer - westheimer near montrose; about 5 minutes west of downtown; 2 9-footers, rest are oversized 8s; if there are guys on the 9-footers, they'll generally gamble 1-pocket and 9-ball

I don't live in Houston right now, but I go back once per month. If I were there, I'd offer to hit some with you. Good luck.

That is AWESOME that they are allowing pool cues on board now. Just in time where I'm not traveling at all like I have been the last 2 years... :)

So weird they are allowing small knives though, makes no fricking sense. You know a lot of guys are going to start trying to carry their pocket knives through and not measure properly and lose them. That or someone will try and be stupid and all the restrictions will go back on again.

Oh, and to stay on topic, played at Bogie's several times when in Houston, decent place. Also at some of the Click's and Slick Willies chains.

10 to 15 Pool Halls near the HP Center

3 Barney's Billards on FM 1960, the equipment is not good, fair at best

Fast Eddies 0n FM 1960, the equipment is ok on the 4 9'' tables

Bogies and Big Tymes are the places for the players, good equipment, good music (not to loud), action and tournaments, 20mins in traffic from the HP canter.

P.S. there are more pool halls in Houston then any place in the country and thats not counting the bars!

If u come to legends in league city..Out skirts of Houston..We have a brand new tight diamond pro am(courtesy AZ's own Mikey Frost)I will play some one pocket..dunno how u play but pm me.Good luck on your travels.

Sean...The new TSA rules do not take effect until April 25th. I read that in the paper today...:frown:

On another note, Bogies is on the north side of Houston...one of the better rooms in Houston.
