Will casino gambling hurt DCC action....

Really when you think about it, how much gambling on pool you think Cliff's gonna do when there's a crap table close? There are a few players that I know don't come out to play except for the Derby because they spend most of their time playing hold em. What do you think they will do with most of their gambling monies. I bet people go bust in no time. Myself included.

I dont think so. All of the leagues have national and regional tournaments at casinos and I still see plenty of action there. I think the majority of the action players would like their odds a little better on a pool table rather than a card or craps table. Just my opinion
Chris,
Trust me on this one. You put alot of professional pool players in a casino, and they forget how to play pool. They all think they're poker pros. Its about the dumbest and saddest thing i've ever seen.

PS. I take that back. The dice players are the saddest. Atleast poker takes some kind of skill.

Most pro players/A players got as good as they are from gambling. for most the gambling is the most appealing part. IMO

DCC as we knew it is now dead. I think it will continue to be a great event from a pool tournament standpoint, but that it will no longer be a paradise for pool action.

For the last 10 years

Don't count the DCC out yet.... Just because it is being played in a casino, that doesn't mean that the player's and rail's action will 'die'.

IMO there might be a dip in player and railbird attendance, but that will probably build backup in the next few years after the reports of the success of the DCC in a casino have been consumed.

I have been to all ten DCC events. Now that it's going to be in a casino, I think it will not be the same great event as it was. Knowing players and gamblers associated with pool, most would prefer to play poker or whatever the casino has to offer rather than do the pool gaming thing. I wish the best for the event at the new location, but I don't think it was a good move playing it in the casino. I'll miss the old DCC for sure!

yes it will. look at history and talk to any pool players who went to tournaments in vegas, lake tahoe, reno or atlantic city and you will hear stories of all the players going home broke because the casino got them. I remember listening to an accustats where they are interviewing a pinoy (might have been efren even) and they asked him how he was doing and he replied "too much casino".

It is what it is, and regardless I'm still going to the 2009 DCC. I expect the casino to beat me out of some dough while there. If you see me at the dice table, you will be looking at someone who is most likely stuck. I can never leave the dice table winner it seems.

i was at one of the big table tournys in reno and saw efren in action at the craps table many, many times for almost a week. in fact, his backer or at least someone he was there with came to get him for a couple of his matches. the table games were loaded w/pool players - almost exclusively. pretty smart on the casinos part to get all those gamblers in one location . one of the local casinos tried a team pool tournament (supposedly for charity) and immediately saw that all these players wanted to gamble on every machine & table game they have. which is a lot. they will be sponsering a 5-10,000 added tournament because of it. and this comes from high up in the casino.

Damn Fatboy I thought you wanted to flip for 10 dimes. I would have done the 1 dime with you. When we was all outside for the fire drill, I won around 700 flipping.

Do bears shit in the woods?????? Kill is the word not hurt<------mark my words.

this could become the biggest "Bitefest in the world" brutal just brutal.

the STUPID thing is I couldnt find anyone with enough balls to flip for $1000 last year at the DCC, yet the guys who are scared of that bet will go into a casino and blow their $$$ while getting he worst of it. Stupid stone suckers, after you live in Vegas long enough-you look at people in casions in a whole different ways-unless your degernate gambler. I have zero respest for people who "gamble" in casinos, your not gabling at all your just blowing your money.

God Bless the DCC....

I havent ever seen a tournment in a Casino with alot of action, And I have been to lots of them over the past 23 years.

I know 15 or 20 people that go to the Derby every year. We all go to the casino every year anyway. At least two times each year. Maybe somebody should do a poll and find how many went to Caesar's now known as the Horseshoe. I bet there was a lot going over there anyway. I spent $1000 on my room last year at the Executive. This year it probably will be comp ted at the Casino.

I doubt SVB , Frost , Alex and the top players will choose casino games over playing pool. There may be a few players that go broke playing craps, etc. But those players will probably be getting staked anyway. I guess the real concern should be will the stake horses rather go gamble their money instead of putting a pool player in a game!! Most GAMBLING pool players dont have any money anyways.

I think this will be the best Derby yet ! IMHO . I like to play a few cards and watch some pool. Works out good for me.

I can't wait

I think the new venue will do more for the event. For the first time, it may attract people to the event that don't play pool or follow pool. This may bring life to pool in the Louisville area. There are too many people that have no idea that the greatest players alive are in town for the better part of two weeks. Greg will do a great job with the tournament and for the first time in 3 years all the events will be in one location. This should help the vendors and improve the side action. The casino is not that large, so table space is limited. Hopefully the people that go to the boat will take an interest in the game. The Executive West was a dump. It had nothing to offer other than it was close to the airport. I look forward to the better DCC.

As most of you know the Derby City Classic will be held in a Ceasar's Casino. I'm just wondering if the option between pool action and what ever game the casino offers will affect the pool at all? I know I have a past history of getting into win or bust matches with the casino. I know a room full of gamblers such as the DCC offers it will be difficult not to play more blackjack than pool. Or someone might get pumped up in the casino and decide to send it playing pool.
Just a thought. I know its gonna be fun regardless. Each year I look forward to it more and more. Maybe we can have an all round challenge, One Pocket, 10 ball, and Blackjack.

Let's put it this way. Those who want the quick buck, bank on luck and not willing to sweat a money match always march to the casino. Those who have the wits to know that their odds are better in pool and would rather win with skill will opt for the stick and balls. Given both choices in one an accessible place statistically proves that the casino will have the magnetic pull. It's the nature of the beast.

Last night I was talking to some people that I was crazy for trying to use pool for most of my gamble. The qoute was "if I make 50 a day playing pool I would be more than pleased. If I don't make 200 or more playing cards I'm upset." I guess you do have to play harder and you get less time in action playing pool. Kinda sucks.

I am sure Harrah's is hoping some of the pool Plays visit their Slots, and Gambling Tables. Harrah's is good people they alway give me a FREE ROOM in Vegas, Tahoe, Reno, or Laughlin.
