They got the picture cleared up. The commentary was very clear. The camera work and placement was b-,c....imo.
It became much easier to watch as the day progressed.

That's cool. I'll keep checking back in.

I'll apologize in advance if you are among those who funded this event or its internet streaming or if the price you are paying for this streaming exceeds the value you feel you are getting. f either of those is the case, you have every right to be upset.
If, on the other hand, you are somebody who has contributed nothing to this event and are not paying for this stream, then you are pathetic, and I must wonder where you get your sense of entitlement. The entrepreneurs who have conceived and managed this event deserve better than your written tirade, and hopefully, they won't be discouraged about further entrepreneurship in our sport when they read your extremely unrefined post and learn how little they are appreciated in the pool playing world.
No, we are missing them because we did not attend the event. Your post is in danger of making me puke my guts out.

Point well taken, Fred. Had the initial post read as follows:
"Though delighted by the advent of the Galveston Classic and appreciative of those who made it happen, I am very disappointed in the quality of the internet stream, and urge those in control to make every effort to improve it, as presently it does not provide a positive viewing experience."
Now that's feedback that might be taken seriously.
Instead, the tone of the initial post was that somebody should form a lynch mob to ensure that those guilty of this inestimable atrocity are brought to justice. Sorry, Fred, but that's unacceptable to me, and anybody who thinks that this kind of feedback has any place in our game is, in my view, mistaken.
let me give you some insight buddy, because you obviously have absolutely no understanding of the implications or the tremendous insult that this production places on the pool world, and professional pool players specifically.
First, if I were a sponsor of this event, I would be unbelievably furious because the poor production directly translates into lost money for me. I'm not a sponsor personally, but I support a lot of them and I sympathize with the fact that pool is a dying sport and most pool related companies are struggling in a big big way.
That plays into the bigger overarching point that you clearly missed. This event has been touted as a step forward for pool in general. It is supposed to be the next big thing, and from reading some posts about the quality of play... it sounds like it will be the next big thing.
Nothing in this world is free. As I stated in my original post, there is financial reason behind streaming this event for free... namely a higher level of exposure for sponsors and an higher level of exposure for professional players. Higher awareness and interest in pool directly translates into higher purses, better sponsorship deals, and more recognition for pool players who have a vested interest in the game.
I am not a professional player, but I do dedicate a big part of my life to it. It is a true passion of mine and I have an emotional bond with the success of demise of pool... perhaps for selfish reasons, but I like to think not. I idolize guys like Efren and Earl... they deserve much better because they are 1 in a billion talents and deserve the rewards for their hard work and their genetic gifts.
Are you satisfied with the production of the stream? Do you think that good planning went into the production? Would you say that production is fitting to the level of play? I think we can all agree that it is nowhere near there.
If I'm trying to expand a market, the pool market, you don't do it by showing your new potential market that the pool world is filled with a bunch of unprofessional nits who do not plan things the way they should be planned.
I'm not suggesting that this event is a total bust, I'm only making a comment on the production of the stream.
You want to lob personal insults? Go for it. No sweat off my back, I don't know you and that attitude you have seems pretty indicative of your geographic location anyways.
"We are missing them because we are not attending the event."
Now let me follow your logic there pal... if people can watch the Superbowl for free (which they can)... do you think that it is fitting for it to be broadcast by one guy who doesn't know what he's doing with the lowest quality camera possibly available? I mean, that's what we are supposed to be watching here right... the Superbowl of pool... or at least something close to it. When I think Efren vs. Jose Parica in one pocket.. that's about as close to world class as you can get.
Do you think that the NFL, the players, the owners or the fans would be satisfied with a subpar production because it's free and people who are upset are just ungrateful *****s?
No, sir... I find your point of view insulting to the world of pool. I find your absolute inability to recognize that pool deserves something better insulting and puke inducing. I get angry and upset when I see people who don't know what they are doing trying to represent billiards to the world, when none of us want that image to be conveyed.
So are you going to continue to be satisfied with the status quo, sir? Are you going to be happy with what you have because it's free? That sounds pretty ass backwards to me.
These people who produced this deserved the benefit of the doubt up until the point it was time for them to put up.
Let me say again, there are some great things happening in Galveston this week... but they are not capitalizing on the opportunity like they should. They are letting the professionals down... the guys who live off nothing for the love of the game. The world class talents that should be making millions, but have to play for tiny purses in front of webcams with less than 1000 viewers... it's a shame and it's because people like the producers of this stream cannot get their shit together.
There is no excuse for a stream that low in quality. This is a million dollar event! Right?!?!?! Bigtruck doesn't have a million dollars. TAR doesn't either! Their production is 1 million times better than this, and all they had to do was figure out how to do it properly... test things. It is clear that this was put together at the last minute and things were not tested.
Again. I'm insulted. I'm sick. I'm pissed. It shouldn't have to be this way... it is because of nits like you who are satisfied with sub par.
Bigtruck graciously gives the camerawork a c or a b.. I give it a D now that it has improved. The pool world should be satisfied with nothing less than an A.. period.
The commentating is great, the talent is fantastic... the production is absolute garbage.
I graduated form an Ivy League School
Can somebody post a link to the stream? I'm having trouble finding it..![]()
If you are capable of producing refined arguments and are yourself refined, then show it in your style of communication. Your comments are not tongue-in-cheek, just disrespectful of the many who've invested time and money into the production event.
If you reread my posts, you'll find that I have only objected to what you wrote and how you wrote it. I have not drawn any conclusions about you, though I maintain my view that your unrefined post, if intended as feedback, is unfortunate.
... and, please, don't address me as if I'm some kind of clueless moron unschooled in the realities of pool's landscape. I graduated form an Ivy League School and retired at 50 after a successful career in finance. I am a frequent financer of pro pool events, have sponsored professional players and local exhibitions, and I have served as an officer of pro pool organizations.
I made it clear in my second post that I had no problem with most of the content of your feedback or any of your underlying reasoning for wanting better, but as somebody who intermittently finances pro pool events, I can tell you first-hand that the likelihood of my further investment will always be reduced by the rantings of those who offer the kind of unrefined feedback that you thought appropriate.
If you are active in our sport, I thank you for any and all contributions of time and money you have made. If you are not, it seems you have the passion for it, so you should consider getting involved. I hope, as you do, that there are better times ahead for the sport we both love.
I think that, after all is said and done, we both want the same thing and have the same dreams for pool, so let's drop it right here. No offense taken on my part, and none intended, for I admire you for your passion about pool.
pwd, I think this is it, but it's not live yet: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/inside-pool-and-billiards
I still defend my level of emotion and disgust because you and I fundamentally disagree that these people deserve some type of respect.
