People have very short memories
Folks:
While I answered "yes" to this poll (there was no "tentative yes" option, nor was there a "we'll see" option), I have to remind people of what happened with the Player of the Decade voting.
Pool & Billiards magazine picked Efren for the Player of the Decade (which, after careful review, was a good choice -- it was him or Ralf Souquet in my personal opinion).
But Billiards Digest picked Mika Immonen, because of Mika's gangbusters 18 months prior to the end of the decade.
(Interesting side note: the "decade" isn't over yet, and both Billiard Digest and Pool & Billiard magazine made their selections prematurely. 2010 is the last year of the current decade, if we're going by the pure dating system which starts at the year "1" -- not zero. It's just like those celebrating "the new Millennium" when 1999 rolled over into 2000 -- the millennium hadn't ended yet, and the new millennium didn't begin until 2001. But I digress...)
Anyway, point being, people have very short memories, so we'll see how the voting goes as the year goes on. It's only May -- five months into the 12-month year. Just because SVB has a great "first five months" doesn't mean that another player won't outshine him in, say, the last 3 months of the year. And wouldn't that be a travesty if SVB has a great six/eight months, racking up tournament win after tournament win, but, say, Mika wins a couple big ones towards the end of the year, and gets the Player of the Decade again only because of the timing of the events he won, he (Mika) is "fresh" in people's minds?
In human nature, timing of things is everything, unfortunately.
