Will The USBA 3C National be Live Stream?

Issues:

1. Who would or could Live Stream in Las Vegas. During the Time Frame May 9-13, 2011?

2. What would it cost- Hotel, Food, Gas, and etc?

3. Could enough Donations be raise for Live Stream?

4. Could we get over 300 viewers?

How many would donate to make this happen?

Bob,

As you can imagine, a lot more work is going into the Nationals this year.
Having it at a Las Vegas casino in conjuction with a national pool tournament league is a major plus!

It is not that the streaming is not important. It is very important! Should have some definitive answer very shortly.

Okay, of course the live streaming COULD happen. Trouble is, if it's not in place to be set up already, it becomes increasingly more difficult to get it into action. STILL POSSIBLE!! The problem i keep finding here is that people just don't seem to care enough to do what they can to help out and promote this game. They're happy with sitting at home and dreaming about what billiards COULD be like in this country without actually doing anything. The number of views of this post vs the number of people that took 2 seconds to enter a vote in this pole is evidence of this.

I vote for Mi_Billiards to live stream the Nationals. They do a fantastic job ( proved with COC @ SBE). If anybody's wondering, I voted that I would definitely donate to help get the live streaming going. whether it be my time and/or money (even though i'm basically flat broke like everybody else).

Can we get some responses for once people?

Dru,

I don't disagree with what you have said. But the 90%/10% rule applies to billiards no differently than it applies to any other endeaver. 90% of the work is done by 10% of the people. It just becomes more obvious or apparent when observing a sport that has little popularity like billiards.

Don't misconstrue what I'm saying. This doesn't mean we should all who love 3c stop, get in the fetal postion and start sucking our thumbs.

What it does mean though is that 10% may have to contribute more in the short term to reap benefits down the road in the long term e.g. increased popularity in billiards.

Most of the people I like to hang out with are part of that 10%.

And you are certainly one of them.

Willthe USBa Nationals be live streamed

I can not believe that of all the people on the Carom forum only 6 replied. Where are you all? Do you or don't you want to see billiards streamed?

Thanks Dru.

I talked to Mazin, when we were at the Pendennis Club, about streaming the Nationals. I imagine the hold up is lack of funding.

We had a somewhat major setback at SBE and were lucky to get a stream up at all. The streaming computer had a power surge/spike that corrupted files and created many bad sectors on the hard drive. Fortunately Curly was able to make repairs that allowed us to stream in a limited fashion. We have purchased 2 new 10,000 rpm drives, 1 to boot from and the second for the streaming software, to replace the corrupted HD.

Mi_Billiards will be ready to stream the Nationals, if needed.

Steve

My Donation already been given to Paul Frankel [Professqball] with agree between us.

Dru - I mention in other threads, 2011 is the year for awarness for 3c. Your post above is true 100%.

zensteve- Usba is idle.... they should be acting like a union..... money, demand, and protecting for more awareness. 600+ members only 1% not 10% been voicing their opinions.

MI_Billiards would have my vote for live streaming. And we al know it $$$$$$$$ for equipments. But when you have 210 subscribers for an event ,but only 115 viewers where the other 100+????

What this RatF@@Ker does on AZ, might not show what happen behind the scene. Only a hand full might really know what RatF@@ker does. I don't have anything to gain or have anything to lose.

What does the live streaming cost?

Please post the estimated cost to provide the live streaming for the Vegas nationals so those of us who want to contribute will have some idea. Thank you

The Nationals is being held at a major ACS Pool Event. They probably already have people there doing live-streaming. I will be speaking about this shortly with Mazin & Paul Frankel & then the USBA Board of Directors. Live-Streaming, as long as it is possible, should be a MUST. Especially this year.

Hey Bob-

Good to see you out in front on this.

I'll kick in.

Might get to watch some of this one.

Did I miss where to send the money? Paypal? Please advise.

Take care

I know donations can be made directly to Mi_Billiards@yahoo.com via paypal donations. I do not know, however, if there are other means for making donations specifically for live streaming of the nationals. Maybe somebody can comment on whether or not these donations can be dedicated to live streaming the nationals. Also, somebody from USBA Board please adivse of a specific live streaming fund that donations can be made to.

Steve and Curley - Please post averages costs for you to put on an event like this so people have an idea of what it will take to do it. Maybe on your website we can see a graphic of sorts that shows how much is needed vs how much has been donated. Kind of like those thermometer looking charts that are filling up with donations (not sure what the heck people call them).

Thank you.

Logdog, Hopefully Jim Shovak, Paul Frankel can give us an estimate on cost for Las Vegas.

I believed The Champion of Champion Live Stream at SBE was over $1000.00, That the rumor I heard.

Bill, Thank for posting.

Donation can be send to the USBA, and requesting money to be use only for Live Stream. Or other way that you might request.

Call Paul Frankel [ProfessorQBall] contact information can be found here
http://professorqball.com/?page_id=504 , Just discuss with Paul what you want to do.

Caromcorner -I would like Mi_Billiards to live stream this, But that decision is Professorqball and USBA.
As who will live stream the event.

Bob-

Will do. We'll get it figured out. I'll call Paul.

PS: Nice cake.

Donations to the USBA can be made online by credit/debit card through Paypal by going to www.USBA.net and clicking “Make A Donation” on the top right of the page. You do NOT need to have a Paypal account.

If you wish your donation to be spent specifically for live-streaming, then please send me an email at JimShovak@USBA.net and let me know.

I still need to see the cost estimate to live stream the vegas tournament. Please break it down so we can understand it completely. Thank you

Logdog - a break down of cost estimate would be nice. But the biggest cost = Traveling expense.... would depend: who would Live Stream, where they traveling from, mode of transportation?

But easier cost estimate would:

1. Hotel cost per day x 7days.
2. Food expense per day [ 2 people, 3 meals per day x 7 days] [example $60.00 X 7 =$420.00 that low end]
3. Internet connection/Electrical service cost?
4. Other cost - Hotel Union Workers Service/Labor Requirement?
Setup/Break Down.
5. Live Streamer Service cost per Day. $5.00 an hour to $250.00 a day x 7
days.

My estimate $3000.00 to $5,000.00.
True estimate....????.??

Here a Thought maybe the money , in the Jr/WomenFund could be use. Just call it : live stream to promote Jr/women awarness for 3C.

Or Let see 600 USBA Members x $10.00 donation per members = $6000.00.

Logdog I know this doesn't answer your question. But remember this the first time . So the cost could be low or high. Donation would be needed whether $0.01 or the total cost [$6000.00] to live stream this event or other event.

I'm a supporter of Live Stream and 3C. But also USBA #1 NONMEMBER.

I can only speak for the expenses Mi_Billiards to do the live stream in Las Vegas.

Travel for round trip of ~3900 miles
~220 gallons of gasoline times current price per gallon
2 nights lodging near the half way point of the drive.

Lodging in Las Vegas for each night of the event, including at least two nights prior to the event starting.

Food, $15 per day to cover difference between home cooking and food on the road.

Please keep in mind that at this time it has not been determined if there will be live streaming or who will be provider.

Steve
Mi_Billiards

ps
To those thinking that flying would be a better option, understand that we (Curly and myself) have 400-500 pounds of sensitive equipment to transport. If anyone has suggestions on how to SAFELY get that equipment shipped to Las Vegas in a timely manner, please offer your suggestions.

Again I can only speak for Mi_Billiards.

For business owners this is an opportunity to be a sponsor of the live streaming. Commercials advertising your business can be run during the stream, as well as your logo shown several times during each match. Commentators could also mention your company as an official sponsor.

This is not all about donations, there is some value to being a sponsor.
