I found a willie hoppe cue from 1950's era on the internet for a decent price. The real question is whether or not it is real and if i were to fix this up as a collectible i would have to get the stick redone professionally. What does a cue like this go for after it is redone? does it lose value? and whats the original price tag on a cue like this. I also have the pictures of it. I really don't know too much about this cue and i know theres a lot of fake stuff on the internet so whats your insight. Real or fake? thanks guys.

I would say that its real. If it were me I like to leave them original. Whether or not the value is compromised depends on who works on it and what is done to it. These cues new sold for under $ 20.00. I don't think that that bumper is original to the cue. If I had a bundle of these I would like to re-work one myself but they are getting hard to come by. You can check prices on ebay and get a good idea of the value.

expect to pay around a grand to get a basic conversion with two shafts done by any well known maker. Value will be probably be whatever you have in the cue. If you pay around 250 for the cue and 1000 to convert it will likely be worth around 1250, but you may not even get that much for it in this market. The butt could be warped also which is difficult to tell when buying off the internet. If it is warped especially near the joint area the cue could be difficult to convert and you may end up with an unusable butt. I would only buy if the price is a steal

Actually u hit it on the nose the craigslist said 250$ but $1000 is a lot to put into. So in essence its like a stock car that i get for cheap its worth that and if i put a new engine in then its worth that plus the engine. It seems like it would be more of an investment than just buying something that has value already. Correct?

No

Hi,
I vote not to refinish. My perspective says great shape and that patina is worth money to those who may be collecting.

still worked for me i dunno i apologize that it didn't work for you but i just got those pics tonight from the ad best advice i could give u is to search the craigslist ad number in google which is 1447603418

That cue is worth around $300 to $400 if it is in good shape.

A refinish would cost about $150 to $350.

A conversion would run anywhere from $1000 to $2000 depending on who does it.

Best,

Russ.....

The cue pictured is actually from the 1940's, not the the 1950's, and one part of it is not original and that would be the bumper, these cues did come with one.

Beside that the cue is original from what I see, however, I disagree with the prices to have a conversion done unless it is done by a top Cue maker. Their are many great cue makers who would convert the cue for between $600 and $800.

Good Catch and good luck with your decision!!!
