I am bumping this up to the main section because this is languishing down in NPR and I want everyone to know what a great guy Murray is for donating a cue to help one of Koop's friend's little boy with Ewing's Sarcoma.

And here is the offer by Murray:

I'll put up a birdseye/bocote full spiced cue (some would call it a fancy sneaky pete). I'll take sealed bids until Friday, Oct 13th 5:00 pm EST. Highest bid gets it and all money will go to Sean. Please email me your bid to iii@tuckerbilt.com and put "benefit cue" in the subject line. In case of a tie the one who bid first will get the cue. This is a true sealed bid auction. I will not reveal the bids until the end so dig deep and bid high.

Please help in any way you can. Here is the thread: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=42563

thought of a raffle?

I think it is great that you are doing this, i am just wondering if you would get more money if you raffled off tickets? just a thought..maximize the $$$.

I believe the terms are set. These cues are hard to come by. I tried to get Murray to build me a cue three years ago and he said he wasn't taking any orders. The man builds a jam up sought after cue. I will not bid on it but I will offor to buy it at retail if nobody bids on it. The man has made a beautiful jesture. What could you possibly do better than help out this kid and his familey.

I also think we could all help just by praying for the little guy! That in itself would be a wonderful thing.

Sorry, i should have clarified

If it seemed at all like i was saying he wasnt doing a good thing, or doing it wrong i aplogize...i did not mean for it to come across as such..the exact oposite. I was just wondering if you could make more $$ in a raffle. I do some fundrasing at work, so i try to maximize $$ potential, but i will be honest and say that i dont really know which would bring him more money. It was just a thought. Sorry if i gave the wrong idea.

very nice gesture Murray, not even going to bother to bid as I have zero spare money right now.

Koop...very thoughtful original post. Wish I was in a position to help.

I agree that a raffle will/can make more money and get more involved, I've done them in the past and would help on this one if you aren't set on the bid idea, most people wouldn't mind changing it up in cases where it's for a good cause.

Thanks everyone. I agree that a raffel might bring in more money but it also involves more headaches trying to assign numbers and collect money etc. The way I am doing it is simple for me. Plus I have recieved several very generous bids. Too late to change horses now.

That's a very nice offer and if I was in charge of this place I would definitely take Jimbo up on the offer. He's the man for the job.

I would certainly buy a few raffle tickets. I know I would never be able to offer enough to outbid some other guys on here. With buying a few raffle tickets I would get a chance to help in the little way I could and still have an outside chance to win something nice.

Do you have an example pic of the type of cue in question?

I loaned out my camera and have not got it back yet. Here are some pictures of it after it was finish turned. Of course the wood looks richer with finish on it. I'll update these once I get my camera back.

Joint pin is 3/8-11. Comes with two shafts.

Just would like to say I own a Tucker and though mine is not a sneaky pete, I'm sure the hit is similar. The winning bidder will not be disappointed with the way their cue plays. Murray does good work.

Great gesture by Mr. Tucker.

I believe Murray makes his own blanks for the full splice cues.

So is this going to be a Raffle or the bidding thing?
If it ends up being a raffle count me down for a couple of tickets.

Tony

Tony,

I don't speak for Mr. Tucker but the way I read his response is that he prefer it keep it a *bidding* to keep it simple for him.

P.S. I love it when a cuemakers offer their product to raise the money for a good cause. During Katrina fund raising, Mr. Searling offered a cue and I put it a bid. I didn't end up winning but did end up corresponding with Dennis for a bit.

Thanks Everybody

If you are short on funds and can't bid, I believe your prayers are just as important. Sean is a cute young man and wants to be a pirate for Holloween. Cool!!!
Thanks, Don:cool:
