I disagree, as one must pick winable battles to win. I am not stepping in no boxingring with Mike Tyson. Mike will kick my butt.
but we agree for every winner, there are a lot more losers..

That all depends on your definition of "loser." If you purely look at money, then yes, there are more losers.
However, I don't play many money games... if I do, they are cheap. I usually play low dollar tournaments ($10-$20 entry). I don't win all that often, but I do stay competitive. Plus, if I go out early, there are always practice tables available until the tournament is over, so I still end up getting 3-5 hours of table time for my entry fee.
I play because I enjoy it, not because I crave the win. Because of this, I consider myself a winner... even when I lose.
Never quit if you're winner.... In over 20 years of action I've only quit winner once, got in a 1 pocket game around 11am on a Friday betting $50/game, somewhere along the lines I'm up several games and we switch to $100/game. When we started I had a little tickle in the back of my throat like I was about to get a cold.... My dad came in Friday night, and Saturday morning then afternoon and sweated 2-3 hours at a time. The whole time we're playing I am getting sicker by the hour and my dad's comments about me not looking good are increasing. My dad walks in at the 37 hour mark and walks straight up to me and says "You're done!". I'll tell my opponent that we can leave the game up for next time, or whatever, I'm done. He ends up paying me off the $1,700. Not happy but that was his call....
BTW, when I went to the doctor Monday morning, I found out that I had a bad viral infection and I didn't work for the next 3 weeks (self employed with a back log of work piled up already). You have to be half dead to quit winners.....
Add: You can't take off scores if you don't gamble.....

if you are practicing for the years required to be any good at this at all.. and your doing it to make money... then you are an idiot..
the people who actually do what it takes to get really good at pool.. are not doing it for money... and you have probably never heard of any of us

I don't believe that if you quit you're a loser. What if you twist your ankle and can't go on? I've seen girls do this countless times.

I agree. Finding a decent game, someone you can hone your skills with, is a lot more important and harder to find than a money game. I could care less about the money. I make more money at my job than the world champion pool player. I understand playing for money changes your focus and hardens your character but I certainly don't need it. I feel bad taking money from others that do need it.
My mind is now officially blown. (Before this post it was merely unofficially blown).
Tramp Steamer, your help is needed in the wife vs pool thread. Please go straighten up that situation. I can't even read it.

well said, I agree with that.
The majority of time when someone quits winner, they don't think they can beat the person and was lucky to get ahead. Unless there is a real emergency or a agreed time to quit, that's the real reason they quit.
What me and the guys I play with on a reg. basis do is set a time limit. It's not like we never see each other again. I have a job and family, if pool is getting in the way of that, I'll quit when I damn we'll please
