I like winner breaks and I like rack your own. I like the momentum swings and stringing racks that comes with winner breaks, and with rack your own you've got no one to blame but yourself for how you rack'em.

But let's make it 10-ball instead of 9-ball. If it's gotta be 9-ball then no 9's on the break--spot the 9 and take ball in hand.

I am with this PoolBum.

Irrespective of the rack mechanic issues...

The best way is rack your own. The incentive iss there for each to put up what is sufficient for their needs.

Jimmy, Please check posts #4 (blackballed) and #6, Coo Coo's response, and please translate for me, if you can, what the Hell they are talking about ? They seem to understand each other perfectly. scary isn't it ? Also Coo Coo's post # 11 needs a little work ! Does he just bang away and hit submit ? Fatboy could give him the 5 out in a spelling contest.
Maybe I'm just jealous because his threads get so much more action than mine do.

Goodnes- coco and I are together? Curses, to you!

I am saying there are 2 issues:
1. the goal is a good rack. When you play rack your own, each player is responsible for his own rack, therefore creating a scenario where the breaker and racker have the same desire...said good rack.
2. Manipulation of the rack to breaker's advantage is possible, but I chose to ignore that. To address now, I vote for 10b, 10 spots if made on break.

if you rack your own and set up a dead ball every time who can HE blame??

I guess he should blame whoever made the tournament 9-ball instead of 10-ball because a perfectly frozen rack of 9-ball creates a dead ball every time.

Apparently the BCA instituted a NEW Racking Policy at the BCA EVENT in May 08 at the Riviera in Lost Wages NEVADA. Now one room in the Valley of the Sun is following the BCA lead, and making it Winner Racks, Winner Breaks.

I personally do not like the Winner Racks, Winner Breaks thing, as the first time I encountered it, the guy I was playing was Manipulating the RACK so the NINE BALL was almost Sure to Pocket on the BREAK.

I got tired of say you have a LOOSE RACK PLEASE TIGHTEN it UP SO ALL THE BALL TOUCH.

I like Winner Breaks, Looser Racks.

I guess I don't quite understand. At the BCA event in May 08 in Las Vegas, NV, we played ALTERNATING BREAKS. The only difference this year was that it was rack your own. And of course, it was an 8-ball event.

So, I think your entire question is a bit misleading.

I definitely like racking your own in 8-ball and 10-ball. If it's rack your own in 9-ball, then I'd like to see the 9-ball not count on the break.

Sorry Fried if I confused you I do not like the Rack your own thing. Having only experenced it once. I like Rack the other guys. Winner Breaks, looser Rack for the Winner.

One of the place I play just change to Winner Break, Winner Racks, and i do not like it.

I hate change.:boring2:

I respectfully disagree with the last part, although I wholeheartedly agree with the rest. IMO, ball in hand is still too much of a reward for a 9 on the break. It creates too much incentive not to get the 9-ball frozen. On the other hand, I'd much rather have it be ball in hand than a win. :)

I assume you're talking about one Mexican player in particular, and he's named after a famous monkey (coincidence?).

He'd be calling you that no matter who was racking, provided he was stuck in the match and/or just missed a ball. Pretty standard operating procedure for him. The foot-stomp after a missed ball is always entertaining too.

that's one anyway, not to mention there are one or two others who seem to exhibit the same type behavior and receive the same treatment, lol.

If your opponent is racking for you, you'll probably be getting looser racks, just how you apparently like 'em. :D

I don't break em, they rerack, until they are tight.

Most people realize if you check their racks, each and everyone, they will do it right.

The problem is that some people are never happy and use it as a sharking move. They keep nitpicking the rack, asking for rerack after rerack. When this happens it throws their opponent off the game, which is the intended purpose.

I love rack your own and agree that the 9 or 10 in the lower corner pockets should be spotted, but am fine with them being spotted if they are made in any pocket.

Winner Breaks, Winner Racks

I play in the APA and am quite surprised on how many people don't know how to rack a 9 Ball rack. I am constanly watching people break my racks that scatter and when I break their racks I'm lucky to get more than two balls past the side pocket! I'm an APA 9 and won 2 Sardo racks in Las Vegas for breaking the fastest with 24.7 MPH on a bar box so I do know how to break.

When I'm breaking good racks I can shut my opponent down by making a ball on the break and running out or playing safe to get ball in hand and then run out. It's makes a giantic difference when your breaking good racks vs poor racks.

we play rack your own and if the 9 drops in either of the 2 bottom pockets it spots in the other 4 it counts we never have a problem
