Wired breaks idea

sure watching packages is fun for dedicated pool players. but not so much as its boring for the general public and mildly interested players.
all you do is limit your audience and that hurts pool in general and limits the money tournaments can make, and makes it less desirable to put one on.
If someone playing the game at the highest level hurts the game then there’s no way to ever make it better. Do you think if the pros miss every other ball that people would want to watch? Do crowds gather at golf courses to watch people like me shank balls into every out of bounds hazard on the course? All sports played at the highest level have individuals who make it look easy but the reality is that’s not the case

So you're saying players not putting packages together will be more fun and gain more viewers from the general public and mildly interested players?

Just my $0.02.... Mentality like this and among others: Limiting the breaks in various forms, no 9 on foot pockets during the break, no jump cues, no 3 foul rule, fargo capped tournaments.... I could give you quite a few examples from my 11 years old's perspective and what he has already faced at an early age.

Too much stuff added to the game. Soon we will have tracking devices on players to make sure they don't practice more than 2 hours a day so they can't run out as well, and have motors in the tables to randomly jerk around to make the layout less predictable in the middle of a run out. Make break cues out of light wood so if you try too break to hard to get an open table it just shatters, this way it's not as easy to run out. Have a random number generator at the table that changes what ball you can shoot at first, so the lowest number is not always the one you need to play. 3 times a set a random number of balls fall from the sky on the table you need to deal with. At some point, the rule changes to make things "harder" or "exiting" get to be a bit much.

Let’s go back to slow cloth and buckets, make players have to smash the break again.

Fast cloth has turned the game into pitty-pat Pool.

...nah, we be way past all that, todays game...?

players bring there own rule scored by who should win.

I have slow cloth on my home table b/c my wife liked the color & it's water-resistant. BIG difference. Many fewer highlight reel breaks or draw shots.

I would not mind slower cloth on tables, anyone that played on a newly installed Simonis cloth can attest to how horrible speed control is on those, the ball just never stops rolling and takes a month of break-in time for it to play well. Larger pickets are bad though, but having a 15-20% slower cloth on tables would probably be something most players would be OK with, even at the lower levels.
