I'm heading up to Waterloo, IA later this morning to go to the Iowa VNEA State Tournaments being held there. I didn't sign up for the individual tournaments, just the team event. I'm on a team that should do well if we all play up to our potential. We'll see I guess. ;)

I would have liked to do the individual events but I'm doing "Daddy Daycare" right now for my 3 yr old while I'm layed off from work due to the weather so I'm only able to play on the weekend team event. I have never played in the VNEA State Tournament here in Iowa before, just the ISPA, so I'm looking forward to see if I like the way it is set up and run. Maybe I'll go back to it in the future if I like it.

Anyway ........... I'm outta here for a few days. Which I'm looking forward to just "getting away" if nothing else right now since I've been a real home body for a few months.

Wish me/my team luck! Thanks.

(I'll let y'all know how we did on Sunday or Monday. Good or bad.)

Heres wishing you good rolls and and enjoyable time!!!

Well, we didn't do as well as I had hoped. :(

We got bumped out one round before the $$$ rounds.

We lost our first match to a very good team by just a few points. It came down to the last game really. It was a good match and it could have gone either way. We went to the loser's side of the bracket and won the next 2 rounds fairly easily then lost the 3rd round and I'm sure it was partially due to fatigue because it had been a long day and a couple of our players were missing shots/shape uncharacteristically. We wrapped up our last match about 11PM Sat. night.

I personally was very pleased in my play overall. I had double the points won vs points lost and won 2 out of every 3 games I played and had a couple really nice run-outs and played a few very nice safes when needed.

I wasn't real pleased in the tournament as far as how it was run comparing it to the ISPA here in Iowa. We had to camp out near the bracket board to wait to find out table assignments and times as they weren't posted until right at match time. At the ISPA you know far in advance when/where you'll be playing and you're not married to the bracket board.

I think I'll be sticking with the ISPA for a while. Sorry VNEA.

Tourney

I had a couple friends who played. I haven't heard back from them to see if they placed. One of them had a pretty strong team.

A team from Omaha won the Masters (Lee, Bob, Jerrod, Zack, and Dustin). I know because they "2-scooped us". Oh well there's always next year!

I wouldn't like having to hang around until the last minute to find out when we played either. Knowing when you play in advance lets you get away and relax before you go into battle.....

Yeah, that's a strong team. Those guys are fun to watch. My other buddy said they got 4th. They were in the division right below masters. He said they won all their matches Saturday. Then Sunday one of their guys was MIA, so they had to play with 4 guys. That isn't easy to do.

worst beat ever

I haven't played the IOMA tournament for a number of years (probably 9-10), but when I heard the had a Seniors Division, I thought I'd give it a try.

Tournament was to start at 6PM, I got there at 3 to practice and smooze with friends. The Brackets were up and I looked...first round bye. That ment I probably wouldn't play until 8-9PM. Would have been nice to know that before I took half a day off work.

(now for the bad beat): Shortly after 6, somebody asks me if I am who I am and then tells me I have been disqualified from the Seniors event because I played on a Master team in like 1998. Now it did say on the flier that Masters /Team players would not be allowed, but I thought they ment current players.

Anyway, I was a little perturbed to say the least...not so much by the rule (however absurd it might be...condisering a Master Team Player equal to a Master Player) but the fact that this organization had my entry form for over a month to review but waited until after the tournament started to let me know I was disqualified...waisted a half day vacation.

IA8baller, I know what you mean about the camping out at the charts. I think that's a major reason I haven't been to that tournament for some time. I think I'll stick to the ISPA...seems a little more organized...see you there.
