Wishing Happy Birthday to Jay Helfert

Happy 39th birthday Jay!

I hope I have your youthful look when I reach that age. :)

I look forward to seeing you at the WPC in November if you're going.

Happy belated birthday, Jay. I sent Shanelle to give you a big birthday hug and a big wet kiss. You can thank me later. Anything for our favorite poster!

Jay is one of the greatest people I know. Period. He is a great personality on this board but in real life he is 100times better, I'm honered to be his friend. Anyone who hasent met him is missing out, if he is around a tournment and you see him go say hi, you wont be disappointed, he offers the world alot far beyond pool, and he is real not a phony, his storeies are true and not exaggerated-thats unlike most people who talk about the past and blow everything up out of porpotion. jay keeps it real like me.

THANK YOU ALL!! All the well wishes and witticisms here are truly a gift for me. I feel loved!

I had a great day, worked and wrote a little in the AM, went to the post office, and then to my grandson's basketball camp led by Dave Miller, former Clippers assistant coach, now with the Hornets I think. He's a great guy. So when he finds out it's my birthday, he calls me out on the court with 100 kids sitting in a huge circle, and his assistant coaches all out there. He flips me the ball and says he has a proposition for me (this guy is quite the character).

He asks me if I think I can make a free throw. Sure I say. He says that if I make the first one I try, Dylan gets a free camp ($350). Great I say. But if I miss he says, I have to bring 100 donuts to camp tomorrow. Okay why not, I don't mind. The kids start screaming and every one is laughing and joking, but I take dead aim. I take my time, dribble the ball a little and focus on the basket. I CAN make a free throw. I've made a million in my life. The basket looks far and high. I make up my mind not to leave it short.

When I'm ready, I make a nice soft pitch and....SWISH, nothing but net, so help me God. Everyone goes crazy, and I've got a smile ten feet wide. Dylan runs up and gives me a big hug. Coach Miller gives me a big smile and says (I swear to God) "You hustled me". Now, is that funny. He flips me an authentic Clippers Jersey as a bonus. I'm wearing it now. It feels cool. I'm going to bring the donuts tomorrow anyway.

So that was the highlight of my day. Dylan told everybody about it all day long. We had a nice family get together at my Mom's place in the Marina and we all pigged out. I love celebrating my 39th birthday. I'm getting kind of good at it by now.

I love AZ!

I knew you'd get the donuts anyway... You're a good man, Mr. Helfert. :)

I Like To Dunk Them In A Bowl Of Milk

I like nothing better than waking up to a good donut story. Especially one with a happy ending.

( not like the stories where the baker puts the bad little boys in the hot grease with donuts ) :)

Happy B-day Jay ! May all your cards be live, and your pots be monster !

Thanks MIKE! I played with Jerry Yang at the $1,000 tournament at Pechanga back in March or April. This was the one where I had the ill fated trip home, stopping in Lake Elsinore to snooze.
