Check out this 2017 DCC match: Brumback vs. Killer Miller. Fun, exciting game with two of the best bankers out there.

I contend that bank pool is perhaps the most exciting pool to watch for a spectator. No shot is a foregone conclusion and those multi-rail banks are a real treat to behold when the ball drops. Thinking of the remainder of the year ahead, we will mostly witness 9 or 10 ball, which is really kinda like painting by the numbers...BORING!

If pool wishes to succeed as a spectator event, I would suggest showcasing the many cue disciplines our game has, not just 9 or 10 ball. And if you're gonna insist on rotation based games, then bring back the full rack version: Rotation!!!

Just sayin'...

Not very impressed with the 1st 13 minutes of the match, so I got bored and stopped watching. I really enjoyed watching this SVB 9 BALL Banks match though.

People seem to leave out the facts. Banks is super interesting to anybody who is trying their damndest to learn how to bank well. The problem is, nobody in the general public anyway, wants to learn to bank well so yes it's not a good spectator sport. If you could make a million dollars a tournament banking balls every kid in the nation would want to bank well and it would then be a major spectator sport. It's that simple there's no magic to it other than prize money and pool has pretty much less than none.

Banks is interesting but it is boring to watch for me. The skill involved in making a really difficult bank that then leaves a run out, in a an otherwise tight spot, is completely lost in banks pool but is a big weapon in other variants where a successful bank shot is not just about "wow, what a bank". Banks is contrived and one dimensional - whats next? "Kicks"? "Combos"? "Cuts"? Nothing wrong with the game - it's interesting and a good diversion from the routine - but it's a contrived game and rather boring.

The routine is killing the sport imo. I'm not suggesting Bank pool as an exclusive offering. In fact, I think that more derby city classic style events is precisely what the game needs more of. 9 and 10 ball are absolutely the most boring to watch. Certainly only my opinion though. Also, I don't feel that bank pool is any more contrived than nine ball.

I can watch 9 and 10 ball all day. I can watch them when two elite robot players rarely miss because it's exciting when they do miss. It's also exciting when they play that amazing bank/combo/carom/kick that is the only game winning shot available and requires accurate movement of a number of balls to work out. A bit like a 0-0 soccer match or low scoring ice hockey match being more exciting than a goal fest.....

I'm all for innovation and don't mind contrived if it works - not convinced though that banks works as a spectator sport or as a game that demands a range of skills.

I hear you. Perhaps my perspective is a bit off after playing pool and watching it for over 20 years now. Like blackballed, I can't even sit through even 15 minutes of a 9 or 10 ball match. And that's true even if i'm betting on it lol. I just really want more of pool's variants showcased more often. It won't happen though, but one can hope...

How true.

About 10 years ago or so many casinos in Vegas were closing down the poker rooms because of lack of interest and players. They started to show the Texas Hold Em tournaments on TV and had prize money of over $1 million. Everyone seen this as a easy way to make a lot of money and soon the boom started. The casinos were being swamped with players and poker rooms were being reopened. It is kind of fading as many seen that it isn't as easy as it appeared but is still popular.

Poker is the only activity that is more boring to watch than pool, lol. It's fun to play, but it's torture to watch. I get that lots of people watch it, but I'm not one of them.
