I just wanted to let everyone know we are still around. I haven't seen any of you 14:1 players in quite a while. I think I know why and I understand. When you guys first started coming in back in April and May of 2012 we had just opened up a couple months before. Just in time for the slow season for bars and things were very tough. We had good food but poor service. The problem with being a new place that isn't real busy yet is the quality of employees available. Really good servers and bar tenders normally already have good jobs making good tips and Witten's was not necessarily that place back then. We limped through the summer of 2012 without good wait staff or enough air conditioning. I went back to my day job in June 2012 so I could pay my bills and fortunately we made it through the offseason and as soon as October came around business really started to pick up. November was better, December even better, and then January we were finally doing well enough I could leave my job again and focus solely on Witten's Grill. We started opening for lunch in January 2013 and business has just been getting better and better. Our sales now are a little more than triple what they were back in the summer of 2012 and now Witten's is the place to work because if you're a good server you'll make real good tips at Witten's now. I am very proud to invite Y'all to come back and apologize for our shortcomings in the early months. We are light years ahead of where we were when y'all were coming in last spring and summer. I just had all the tables recovered 6 days ago and they are way, WAY better than before. When an "un-named" local Brunswick dealer set those tables up for me originally they told me that Simonis doesn't make 860 cloth anymore that they make some other grade that is more conducive to commercial use. I let them install and not only was the quality of the install poor the cloth didn't really play like simonis. It said Ivan Simonis right on the cloth so I felt good it really was Simonis. When I was online shopping for more simonis to recover I found 860 everywhere and it turns out that 860 is 90% Wool and 10% Nylon and this Simonis HR Commercial cloth is 70% Wool and 30% Nylon. Shane Dialed these tables in real tight. They play so well now and now they are well taken care of. We have someone that comes a few times a week and vacuums (even though Simonis says to only brush) and they are brushed daily. Anyway, I just want to invite you guys to start coming back again. We have a bigger and even better menu. We added our own recipe Orange Chicken Dinner and Spicy Honey Mustard Chicken dinner that are off the hook good. I am so proud of those two new items along with our great Cuban sandwich, Burgers, Chicken Pasta, and tostada nachos are all my favorites on the menu. Everything made in house. Remember we are in Hurst which is a 51% Food 49% liquor city. We have to sell more food than alcohol which will never happen if our food isn't good. I would also like to see if there is any interest in starting a 14:1 league at Witten's or maybe tournaments or something. I loved watching you guys play. Might be time for me to quit playing 9 ball and learn how to play 14:1 Hope to see you guys soon! Thank you, Richard Witten

Thumbs Up

Very happy to read your comment. Simonis cloth will make those Gold Crowns play great. I wish you & your business the Best of Luck. Your place is what the area needs. Maybe a 14.1 league can get started there someday. I will make it a point to come visit again, practice some 14.1 & eat some good food.
Best of Luck
Mike G.

When I went there -
The equipment was better then anywhere else in the DFW area.
The food was top notch-quality-quantity-price.
The service was poor.

I talked to the owners and he corrected the service issues.

If the tables play "better" now, well it is a no brainer about going there!

I am no longer in Texas, but if I was, that place would have my business.

Witten's Grill was one of my favorite spots when I lived in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I agree, a 14.1 league would draw some players in.

Don, sorry to see you leave the area but I do understand that certain jobs move people around. You were a good playing partner for me. If you're ever in the area again, give me a call.
Regards;
Mike

That statement said it all.

Straight pool may not be as exciting as folks with short attention span would hope, as it doen't involve jumping (which damages felt and possibly creates a liability for the room owner) and lucking in shots (the reason the great Jean Balukus left the game), but it's a smart game that requires analytical/cognitive skills, and is precise, deliberate and measurable. Much like three cushion.

Watching one pocket is like being force fed benzodiazepine.

Nine ball should be confined to coin operated toy tables in bar rooms.

Happy 2014!!!

Here is a news flash for you.
There is "luck" involved in every game.

14.1 is a great game!

1 pkt. is a great game!

8ball and rotation games are great!

Billiards is a great game!

Have a "GREAT DAY"!

There is "luck" involved in every game.

Straight pool is a call shot game, call every ball and call the pocket, and the object is to run all balls and leave a shot to break the next shot.

Nine ball is a luck game. As long as you hit the lowest ball first, anything goes in and you keep shooting. Including the 9 ball, if you luck it in you win...YAY!!! Hey, you can even jump over balls too, wow, how exciting!!!!

Luck in every game? Umkayyy......

Never kiss a ball in while playing 14.1?
Never miss and accidently hook your opponent?
Never break a cluster and create a "cosmo"?

As to jump cues I hate them..but if they are part of the game...

Call shot bih 10 ball is a great game!

Guess your admiration for the jump shot has waned from the days at Chelsea' Billiards when photographing Ginky
