he beat albin 10-4. albin went on tilt and conceded at 9-4. why is he commentating if he can still play like this
Poor of Albin to concede. I don’t think he got those 2 golden breaks out of his head! But still think he should have played it out

Boyes is only 41, just a year older than SVB. But he's got a nice gig now commenting. Having watched some older videos, he seems like a much savvier player now as you would expect.

Would love to see him play vs. JJ.
Jj was eliminated

Haha. Could have been bigger margin. He plays Yapp tomorrow in Winners qualification for last 16. If he can beat Albin, he can beat Yapp

Actually, #12 of WNT rules disallow concession https://matchroompool.com/wp-content/uploads/Official-World-Nineball-Tour-Event-Rules-1-1.pdf

Concession with 6 balls left

yea he was tilted and humiliated. but my thoughts looking at the brackets, in a british event, karls looking like the best brit? used to be a bunch of them, gray, peach, darren, hundal etc. the new names are shadowed by a long time retired player

Watched a replay. No reason for Albin to feel humiliated. Boyes broke and ran 4-5 racks and had two golden breaks. He actually missed two easy shots that also cost him a pair of games.

Put simply, Boyes was terrific. He even played fast. Could have beaten almost anyone today.

A bit wild to see, frankly.

Would it be wise for him to go all again in at his age? Forty-one is not old for pool. He could play five years at a high level.

I dunno. The money is bigger, but it's a grind.

yea he always played fast but didn't think he had this much game. i don't know what the commentating gig pays but prize money is shaping up.. anyway, a boyes vs shaw showdown could be hilarious

Boyes isn't quite "retired". He was playing English pool occasionally in recent years - he even won a tournament (I think it might have been an Ultimate Pool event). If you are playing any cue sport at an elite level then you are "in stroke". So while he has fallen away, he's not that far behind.

Considering the Prize Money the event has had a ridiculously strong field (and I know a lot of them are here for the UK Open as well).

Out of the top 10 by Fargo, only one isn't playing: Anton Raga

Our qualifiers by Fargo:
Joshua Filler 851
Fedor Gorst 844
Shane Van Boening 839
Pin-Yi Ko 837
Eklent Kaci 831
Jayson Shaw 830
Aloysius Yapp 829
Albin Ouschan 825
Niels Feijen 817
Sanjin Pehlivanovic 811
David Alcaide 810
Quoc Hoang Duong 806
Thorsten Hohmann 788
Jonas Souto 784
Oscar Dominguez 780
Tyler Styer 779

Notable players who didn't qualify:
Francisco Sanchez Ruiz 841
Ping-Chung Ko 838
Carlo Biado 831
Wiktor Zielinski 822
Naoyuki Oi 818
Max Lechner 813
Mario He 810

Useless facts for fun and entertainment:
Quoc Hoang Duong did it the hard way, losing the first and then winning 6. He is also one of 6 Vietnamese players to play with a 7th failing to get a Visa (which resulted in Karl Boyes getting a bye in the first round).

Jonas Souto also played 7 matches and managed to only ever play other Europeans.
Eklent Kaci on the other hand qualified with 4 matches and hasn't played a European yet.

Joshua Filler has only lost 8 frames to reach the qualifiers.
And lastly, Sanjin Pehlivanovic has also only lost 8 frames but has also had 17 B&Rs (according to cuescore) including 8(!) in his first match.

(And hopefully the draw for the last 16 has attached)

Nice easy last 16. Seven World 9-ball champions (Filler, Gorst, SVB, Ko Pin Yi, Ouschan, Feijen and Hohmann) and a World 10-ball champion (Kaci).

The Matchroom ranking events continue to draw killer fields, as we saw in Boston, at Super Billiards Expo and now in Scotland.

It's hard to imagine a tougher last sixteen than this next week at the UK Open.

Let the good times roll.

Woo, they are cramming and playing all single elimination matches from last 16 to final today. So the 2 finalists will play 4 straight matches, a lot of matches . Most WNT events, the finalists play 2 to 3 matches on last day

oscar beating filler is a bit of an upset. kaci beating svb maybe not as big an upset historically but still notable because of his injury. when shane sent him to loser side he looked at best 80%

Great hill hill win by Oscar. Led 8-6, Filler comeback to get to hill 9-8 but then missed 9 ball twice. Oscar B&R the decider

The comeback king has to be Duong
Down 2-7 to FSR comeback win 10-7
Down 5-7 to Biado comeback win 8-7
Down 1-6 to Tyler comeback win 10-7
:ROFLMAO:
