Woeful weekend...

Played in a tournament with some absolute monsters of the game this weekend...
Fu Zhe Wei
Zhu Xi He
Zheng Hui Xin
Ao Hong Ming
Huang Hua Hui
Chang Yu Long
Wu Kun Lin
Hung meng hsia
I also bumped into a Chinese-8 player who'd competed in the recent World Champs in Yushan (Mark McGauley) who I invited to play.

Absolutely insanely high level, I feel like the only thing I won all weekend was a couple of lags... (and the odd rack)
Just watching these guys play was a real treat for me, and I feel like I learned a lot. Managed to get a couple of photos with some players that I 'fan boy' over a little.

I also had my second taste of money game... for much less than I played previously, but still enough to sting losing two sets of 7...
Playing WPA 8-ball rules (9ft diamond), I got one ball off after nomination... Went down 7-2 twice... I wanted him to name his pocket for the 8 from the break in the second set and he was having none of it... :ROFLMAO:
Two sets was enough for me, but what can you expect from someone playing professional tournaments for 20+ years? He was adamant I was getting no more handicap than one ball, and I'll take what positives I can from that... I fought pretty hard to swing the odds my way a little more favorably...

won't be partaking in a cash game for a while, but hoping to keep improving!

I will take it as a compliment (or I'll try my hardest to :ROFLMAO:), if he's that worried about losing... Not wanting to take another small handicap, then he is weaker than he wanted to portray.

When cash is involved it is usually the primary factor in everything.

What you find to be weakness could actually be (for lack of a better word) predatory.

The money has flown in one direction and there is no intent for.ot to go the other way.

Absolutely, we all want the money one way...:ROFLMAO: if he wanted me to keep playing, he would have gave me the handicap... he talked like he wanted more... the fact he wouldn't budge any further leaves me in a place where I am feeling happy... 20+ years of playing, talking up all his invitations to events etc Vs my measly one year.... surely he should give me a little more.... the fact he wouldn't budge, I can take the confidence I need from that.

The score lines could easily have been different... I choked some stuff I shouldn't have... two situations I should have ran out and didn't in the first set, which set the overall tone... the first set, then set the tone for the second... I was kind of treating this as a bit of a learning experience/test. I took some valuable lessons away from it.

chang is the last pro player with old school upright stance, he's a bit of a rarity. played great in jayson's tourney some month ago

There's two or three older Taiwanese who also play this tournament when it runs, and who have a very similar 'up-right' style. One of my favorite players to watch is a Taiwanese guy who is in his 60s now, an ex-pro who coaches many players apparently.
His attitude and demeanor is amazing. Looks half asleep as he strolls around the table making it look super easy (when they were operating the old break format, from the side in 9-ball, I watched him run a 9-pack on an opponent...)

You are obviously aware of the true details and I'm speaking in generalities.

You don't think it possible he controlled the possible outcomes to be either he wins more at same game, or you overcome something you proved unlikely to overcome, just to get back to zero?

The errors you acknowledge are the reason you get the handicap and realistic view of how you're expected to perform contains such stumbles.

I get what you're saying. I am an overly cautious person. It was interesting to deal with someone more plainly, given that the formalities and conversation could take place solely in English in this instance.
He definitely wanted to win more at the same game :ROFLMAO: there's no way he'd be taking the black ball nomination... (or any of the other suggestions I had) I'd be hiding that from the off in every set 🤣
But actually, I felt good enough (I was my own enemy enough in the first set, to the point where I thought there was value to give it another try)
I was happy that the money down could also be seen as the price of a lesson/experience in this context lol
I'd go again for a bit more handicap my way, possibly go evens in a different format.
 
Is there some young badass teenager over there that's gonna be the 'next guy' on the world scene??

There's a couple of good younger players there! So who knows... Also, there was some top class female players at this particular event. I think all three female players showed grit, skill and determination in a strong (and probably quite intimidating) field.
