Women and Pool

I thought playing girls would be the same as guys with pool as the great equalizer.

I think I missed out on the feminist protests but from what I read I recall passages about equality.

I wonder what the 70s were really like.

Very brave fellah posting such condescending stuff in a site frequented by women, some of them pool players........though your judgement of what is "entertaining" suggests a short break from pool rooms might be good for perspective:o :)
don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that girls are bad at pool. Quite the contrary, sir. I think women are just as good as men and we should integrate the entire sport to be co-ed. All I'm saying is, I like to watch women play pool and it makes me all swoony inside when one beats me. But sadly, the girls that I am referring to in my little story don't really like pool and don't care to be good at it. :(

Pool playing women don't come by my poolhall too often. :( I don't think we are getting a Jasmin anytime soon.

I'm sure that Jennifer Barretta, Angelina Paglia, Liz Ford and Xioating Pan could whip me on my best day, but if I matched up against them, I think I'd have a hard time being able to hit the end rail.

I was playing pool the other day and was shooting pretty good until a women challenged me and I swear a 4 year old kid could have beat me. Since then I have noticed that when I play against women my game is really off. Has anyone experienced this before. The sad part to this story is the woman was a long way from being hot. I have played against women that can run circles around me so I am not putting down women at all. Just wondering why this would happen.

Good grief, it has nothing to do with a woman's looks! You are having 'issues' for the same reason that I do not like to play women....you do not assign them the same amount of respect/importance and you would a male opponent. And I am a woman!!! As a rule, I generally dislike playing other women in pool, much preferring to playing male opponents. I bring my top game against most male opponents....whereas, save for one or two, I do not bring my top game against female opponents. Why? Most male opponents play a faster paced game, and tend to make me work harder...which I love...thrive on it! Most women players...on a local level....play much slower, and more tentatively than their male counterparts. Also, as most men will attest to, women are the 'great unknown'.....we're difficult to read...makes us tougher to figure out.

I have gotten better at this...and, at the level I am playing now, the women I do play...there are not too many of us that frequent local shoots weekly...are of the caliber of many of the male opponents I often play...and since we are aware of each other, our sets tend to become 'battle royales'....Lol. I am very relaxed when playing men...not so much the case when playing other women, although, that too, has gotten better.

Basically it's the same reason why many of us can make a difficult shot, and still miss the easy shot. We take the easy shot for granted, thereby fubar'ing it. The trick is to find a 'cadence' to your game. Meaning, spend equal time on ALL your shots...develop a rhythm. Then it will not matter what gender your opponent is...because you are focused on staying in rhythm and on point in your pattern...you will not have time to notice who or what your opponent is.

Just a female's point of view. :D

gave a very good answer, and most men are a little soft towards women because we like them and we don't usually compete against them.

Like I teasingly tell all the women that challenge the Challenge table down at Shooters, "I play for money or sex, and you get to choose which one'.

The last one, I had to give the break and 5 and 7 for a $5 game, and she shot pretty good.

I don't do well playing against women players - they always shark me. See photo for proof. Even with Efren as my partner in this match; our female opponent showed a complete lack of sportsmanship. Here is a typical situation on the DCC television table, with me shooting the eight ball (game ball). Those people in the background are laughing - even the fans are out to get me.

The only thing you should do is place all your cues in a Federal Express box and overnight them to me.
Now really, for all the times you've given this advise you must have accumulated a lot of cues by now.

You should put some of them in a Fed ex box and overnight them to me. :p
