Women in pool tournaments

So are you saying you think this is kind of like having to pay the IRS an enormous sum of income taxes?

Tryin' to stir the pot are ya?

Not gonna bite. You know what I mean! :D

EXACTLY!!! Why should women be allowed to enter an on going MEN'S tournament when men aren't allowed to enter WPBA?? There are too many "Ladies Only" tours out there for people to be crying about women being allowed to play in the US Open... It's really kind of unfair to be honest. Ladies get the opportunity to knock men out of the money in tournaments, but men don't get to go knock them off. If they do good in the Open event they possibly have a chance to double dip in a Ladies Only event. So, let's say they don't do so well in the Open event they can always run back to their safety net Ladies Only tour and stand a chance.

I'm not saying that there isn't women out there who can play, because there is. There is some very good women players and they are very capable of beating lots of male players, but if they get beat they can always just go back to beating up on the Ladies Tours and we can't follow them.

Should amateurs not be allowed to enter either? There are top amateurs who are capable of cashing in a pro event and then go and win an event that the pros can't play in.

At least I got one post from the women. I was hoping for more input from them maybe to bolster my self esteem, by them confirming for me that this business goes on by design. Sometimes I am a bit naive about these things and you can't trust a guy about these women things so its always better to get a woman's point of view.

The guys are spread around the field on this issue and I see that I'm not alone with the problem.

I also see that guys like Roy just don't like women and while that's not my style I'm cool with his "misogynistic ways" (I believe that is the term that one of our learned colleagues referred to).

This turned into a long thread once before- took me awhile to find it: Cleavage!

Even after almost 2 years I'm happy with my first response:

Overheard conversation:
"Doesn't it bother you, the way men stare when you walk into a room?"
"Honey, what would bother me is if men DIDN'T stare when I walked in."

As a woman, I will agree that we women know exactly what we are doing in our presentation. We also make sure to let each other know just what we think about their decisions.

As for any moments of confusion or guilt: if she's making a stir, you're supposed to notice while not being a pig.

If she's a real poolplayer, dressed suggestively, it's twice as intentional and you should concentrate harder on the pool.

Joey,

The day a hawt, sexy woman doesn't draw my attention is the same day I take up Lance and Bruce on their offer

I'm not hot, stacked or play pool that much but I still bend over and make a bridge stance in front of a mirror (in the dressing room) before I purchase any shirt. Old habit dies hard, LOL.

Well a long time ago, BV (before Viagra) I had the "usual" man desires and it cost me more than a little on the felt.

I suspect most young men still fall for all that stuff. For proof, see the divorce stats. Most of them don't even get to keep their playing stick. Money!? What the hell is that?? Look at THAT puuurfect rack! (and we ain't talking Sardo here, neither).

So, the old timers used to use the change in their pockets, or screw their sticks together while the other guy was on the nine, or standing too close, or getting a sudden cough, or any number of tricks to shark you, the wimmen (not all, I do agree), have their moves down Pat. (uuh.....that was the name of my first wife, btw).

To this day, I can't play against a sexy woman for shit. They get the cheese every time. And you know what? They get to do it all night.............and I go home...satisfied.:o

I dress nice normally but when I play pool I dress down no cleavage no leg basically no skin showing. I will be dressed normally I wear a great deal of dresses and skirts but I keep a change of clothes jeans and top in the car with my pool cues.

I do all this for one reason to not distract my opponent or to be accused of it. I want them to play there best game. Granted most players would not be distracted anyways. Also I think is tacky when girls try to use there looks to win games.

Just had to put my two cents in

Without having read the rest of the thread,

In professional tournaments you can (and should) have dress code which requires appropriate attire that befits a professional. This is enforcable and not unreasonable.

However in amateur tournaments, unless you create a dress code for all players (male and female) you can't single out women who maybe more distracting than others as long as they do not infringe up decency laws.

At the end of the day we've all seen beautiful women before, most of us have spoken to them, so we should be able to keep our concentration on the task at hand right?

I guess, you're right, joey. But it's a slippery slope, and that's where that kind of logic can lead you.
I have the same problem with focus when a beautiful girl comes in the pool hall, almost no matter what she's wearing. Guys are just wired that way. I dont mind the torture THAT much. Anyway, maybe for a professional tournament, women should have a "professional" standard of dress, like the men. Nevertheless, i doubt any kind of dress code short of making a pretty girl invisible is going to solve your problem...that's your job.

My reason for starting this thread was just to get a little fun discussion rolling along. I was especially hoping to hear the ladies give their opinions. We've had a few posts from the ladies. Wish there were more.

I know that there are some women who genuinely don't want to win because they're distracting their opponent and was kind of curious as to the responses the thread might receive.

Glad you came over to my perspective and that is that the women competitors should have a "professional" standard of dress as do
the men.

I continue to work on developing my powers of concentration and maybe one day, I won't even notice what the other person isn't wearing.

I was talking primarily about women in POOL TOURNAMENTS and not the pool room. I'm not talking about women attending pool events or coming to the pool room. Specifically, I was referring to how women dress for competing in pool tournaments.

Thanks for all of the frank comments. They are all appreciated.
