I have been serious about learning to play about 2 years now .

I went to a small local 8 ball tournament yesterday. There were a number of guys from our APA league and a few other local people. I made it to 2nd place winning against some SL5 & 6 players. It was just my day I guess, I could not believe it while it was happening. I'm a SL4 on a good day. I might have won except for a brain fade that made me try and make a ball instead of playing a safe.

It was my first cash win, I won $60.00. Which proves out the old expression about a bind squirrel.

Thanks to Azbilliards for all the help

You are the perfect player for an APA team.
The fact that you can play under some pressure and you are trying to get better is really good for any team.
60-bucks is a nice little score
Congrats

congratulations, it is a great feeling and now you may find out it is more fun to play for $$$$ rather than league! ;)

Congrats!! I remembermy first tournament win . It feels good. Now go back next time and snap that sucker off. The confidence boost will be an awesome thing for your game.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Yes it's both a confidence boost, and I'm really hooked. I was getting a little fuzzy in my progress. This will get me working at it harder and more focused. Got to back it.

Congrats!! Hope you don't mind my story as it's similar.
I just started getting serious in pool less than a year ago. I'm 60 yrs old. Before that I only went to poolrooms with friends, family, or girls I've dated, and never thought about improving. Now I'm in three leagues, an APA 8&9 ball league, a MegaBucks 8,9,&10 Ball league, and a straight pool league.
Well, every once in a while, especially when I have Tuesday off, I try the Monday night 9-Ball tournament at Raxx in W.Hempstead, Long Island. To be honest I have no business entering as I'm a SL-3 at best and some really good players enter, guys I've seen on Live stream with Upstate Al announcing. Well one night, with a combination of luck and a couple of 9 Balls left as hangers I actually made it to the end even though about 25 players started. We mutually decided to not play the last game and split the prize money. It was only $80 but it felt so good. I eventually played that guy on a later date and he was so good I was glad we split the prize as I doubt I would have beaten him!!

Cool story Jeff.

I beat the guy that won. He was undefeated. I lost one, so I had to beat him two times in a row at the end. I won the first game but messed up at the end of the second.

I'm 64, I play every day against guys at the senior clubhouse (super seniors) they range from 70-80s and have been playing there whole life. They are tough, they know the game.

I was shooting well but also, it seamed like I was seeing everything I need to do so clearly as well.

Congrads I started playing 3 years ago in apa and been playing a lot and I'm a 7 now I remb my first tournamnet win it felt great congrads keep hiting them good :thumbup:

Congrats. Makes ya feel good, donut.

Keep up the good work and do it again soon.

If I remember, I once tied for 5th, (B Side), in a fairly tough field. I got a gift card for a restaurant.

Its not an easy task to stay in stroke and focused for the length of time that it takes to make it thru the day.
