I have this old Dufferin that has a busted forearm. It is a solid one piece butt I am repurposing it for some other repairs. At first I thought it was just stained maple, but after removing the bumper I saw it was solid orange-brown wood.

possible rosewood. try tapping the wood with a soft mallet. if it is it will sound pingy.

Not maple. Been looking into sapele and seems to be a strong possibility.

Unfortunately the forearm is splitting so this butt has no future. I am using the rest for another project. I do have a one piece ebony Dufferin I plan on converting soon.

My vote is Lauan.
Thanks for the input.
Both appear too light for a match.

Digging around I found Brazilwood and Chakte Viga, but the grain just didn't look right.

I found an old post that had an old Dufferin catalog. The text was very blurry, but I was able to make out one cue not pictured that mentioned Pau Marfin. It kind of fits, but also a bit too light.

Thinking about not only the look, but the cost aspect as well, Sapele still fits better so far. I figure a full solid one piece of wood on a basic cue would not be an exotic expensive wood.

The wood does have some chatoyance which fits the sapele as well.
